I feel really bad for Melanie- I think that later on in the book she's going to try and get (view spoiler)[ Chris arrested on homocide charges (hide spoiler)]. She seems pretty mad... :(

I've got mixed feelings about him at the moment. I'm up to the bit where it's flashing back to when he and Emily broke up for a while, and how he (view spoiler)[ didn't listen to her when she asked him to stop (hide spoiler)]. Not cool with that. :P

OK, at the moment:

1. I hate Melanie for trying to manipulate Michael.

2. I hate Emily for thinking that there was no way out but to kill herself.

3. I like Jordan- he makes me laugh. :)

4. I TOTALLY SHIP GUS AND MICHAEL. I mean it's sad she's cheating on James, but they seem so happy together. :P

5. You totally called it on the marital problems between the couples!

1- yes. Melanie just annoys me in general :/
2- I definitely agree with that
3- hmm he's very interesting I suppose
4- same!!!!!!!!! Just hope things don't get mucked up between them :/(

But yeah, I realllly dislike Melanie too. She just can't ACCEPT that maybe she didn't see that Emily was suicidal, if she was. I hate that she's so determined to blame Chris. :(((

I understand it would be hard to accept that your daughter was suicidal, but it is just sad that she is determined to blame a boy she's known all her life, and who was practically family. And how she treats Gus >_<

Yeah. It's just a really sorry state of affairs. :P

I rated it 4 stars too! I think it lost a star because I wasn't so huge on Chris pressuring Emily into sex and stuff- from what I could tell from the stuff he did and said later on in the book it didn't seem to match his character. It seemed like he genuinely cared for Emily and wouldn't have pressured her into that kind of stuff. What'd you think?

I definitely agree with that. I wasn't pleased with that stuff. And at times it went a bit slowly in my opinion. But it was still really good. It was suspenseful and interesting.. Here's the question: do you think Chris was guilty?

That's a really hard one to answer... XD

I think... no. Well, sort of. I still feel like he could've done more to help her out- I hate that he thought his only option was to help Emily kill herself. I wish he'd TOLD somebody or something. But I do get that he loved her so much he thought it would only hurt her more to stay alive. His speech at the trial kind of won me over, too. :)

But then again, I guess he did try to stop her:

“No," he said calmly, filled with purpose. He took her arms lightly in his hands and shook her. "I am not giving you up."
Emily looked at him, and for just a moment he could read her thoughts. Melanie use to say they were like twins, with their own secret, silent language. In that instant, Chris felt her fear and her resignation, and the knotty pain of coming up against a brick wall again and again. She glanced away, and he could breathe again.

So, overall? I AM VERY CONFLICTED. XD What about you?

Yes I am conflicted. Too but I think maybe not. I'm not completely convinced that he's innocent though....

Yeah... he seemed kind of... iffy at the start. I don't know. I think I just trusted him more towards the end of the book.

Blasted Jodi Picoult! She always pulls crap like this- I never know what to think of her characters XD

XD it was my first Jodi Picoult book :) what one by her should I try next??

Lol, sorry I just read this now. I don't know... 'My Sister's Keeper' is definitely worth a try. It was the first one I ever read by her, and I still think it's the best. :)
