The Mystery, Crime, and Thriller Group discussion

My main goal of reading a mystery / thriller is to be surprised at the end and have lots of little “aha” bits that click into place. I usually can figure out who the “bad guy” is early while reading and I very quickly lose interest afterward. When I’m correct, I am disappointed and usually won’t read the author again. I’d love if a few books could be pointed my way for this.

Some examples of books I’ve really loved that meet the above criteria:

Gone Girl
Grist Mill Road
The Wife Between Us (looooved this!)
Jar of Hearts

I also liked Big Little Lies and The Dry (although I really liked The Dry more for the incredible setting and characters.)

I don't think you needed to create three threads for the same question.

Would highly recommend Behind her eyes by Sarah Pinborough

Would suggest The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides if you are into psychological thrillers.
