For as long as she can remember, Gwendolyn Allister has never had a place to call home—all because her mother believes that monsters are hunting them. Now these delusions have brought them to London, far from the life Gwen had finally started to build for herself. The only saving grace is her best friend, Olivia, who’s coming with them for the summer.

But when Gwen and Olivia are kidnapped by shadowy creatures and taken to a world of flesh-eating sea hags and dangerous Fey, Gwen realizes her mom might have been sane all along.

The world Gwen finds herself in is called Neverland, yet it’s nothing like the stories. Here, good and evil lose their meaning and memories slip like water through her fingers. As Gwen struggles to remember where she came from and find a way home, she must choose between trusting the charming fairy-tale hero who says all the right things and the roguish young pirate who promises to keep her safe.

With time running out and her enemies closing in, Gwen is forced to face the truths she’s been hiding from all along. But will she be able to save Neverland without losing herself?

Ch 11 (24%) - (view spoiler)[ Stuff is finally getting interesting. I think Captain is probably telling the truth about things, I just wish he would do it in a way that would make Gwen understand. Also, could this "He" and "Himself" be Gwen's mysterious father?? If so, could he really kill his own daughter to gain power after all these years of trying to protect her? (hide spoiler)]
Ch 19 (48%) - (view spoiler)[ Hmm, there was something fishy about that whole scene in the fog. Olivia said the boys just left her, but I don't think she meant the Captain's boys. Plus, the way the Dark Ones just hung around waiting for Pan to finish his conversation before attacking was weird. Perhaps I am putting too much faith in what Captain said about Pan being full of lies, etc., but I think this whole scene was staged. Also, I'm beginning to wonder if the brothers in the little side-story at the beginning of each chapter are the Captain and Pan. They seem to have some kind of strange relationship; could the older brother (Captain) still be trying to protect the younger brother (Pan) from his delusions of grandeur? (hide spoiler)]
Ch 29 - (view spoiler)[ Uh oh, could she have just accidentally transferred her powers by kissing him? Remember Fiona warned her about "bestowing" her power on another - could she have done just that by bestowing that kiss? I mean, I think he is worthy and all, but I'm just wondering if it would be a good thing?? (hide spoiler)]
Finished - (view spoiler)[ Ok, so I evidently had a wilder imagination than the author. The soldier brothers were not Rowan and Peter, Gwen didn't transfer her powers with a kiss, etc. And that is ok, I like being wrong. I'm a little sad that Olivia didn't make it, and Will. And I gotta admit, I didn't like the epilogue - Rowan was distant until she magically made his arm work again and then everything was right between them?? That was off.

I'm also wondering if this is meant to be a series? It seems to me that there are two threads loose in the story's end - 1) We don't know what happened to her father. He just disappeared a few years ago....seems like a mystery that should be solved. and 2) Gwen is one of 2 people that could heal the imbalance of magic, but she chose to return to London. That means that imbalance is still there...seems like a destiny unfulfilled to me. So either she needs to go back, or she needs to find her father, or both, Right? (hide spoiler)]

I liked this retelling. It was different! It was a lot darker than I anticipated, how about you?
