20.7 - Shorter is Sweeter - Karen Michele's task: The Ozette Loop: A Favorite Hike

Although I haven’t been on this hike in a number of years, the Ozette Loop hike on the northern coast of Washington State remains a favorite journey. Choose one task from the following four options and read a book that fits that task.

Required: State which option you used when you post.

1. Wedding Rocks: a unique feature of this coastal trail is the Wedding Rocks Petroglyphs. For this option, read a book from one of the following lists:

Bedazzling Gravels
Indigenous Peoples
Best Pre-History Fiction

Required: State which list and on which page your book can be found when you post.

2. The Shore Birds: I love watching the herons and other shore birds at Cape Alava on the beach. Read a book with the word "bird" or the name of a specific bird in the title or subtitle. Plurals, possessives and compound words are allowed and the book does not have to be about birds.

3. Twilight: Whatever your opinion is of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, her series of books put the northern Washington coast on the radar. For this option, read a book that features vampires or werewolves.

Required: If it is not obvious from the Goodreads description of the book, provide a reference to explain how the book fits the task when you post.

4. Wilderness: There is an historical fiction book about the Civil War and an aging veteran’s life on the northern coast that I really enjoyed, Wilderness by Lance Weller. Read Wilderness or a book from this Pacific Northwest Books List.

Required: If using the list option, state on which page your book can be found when you post.

Zach Fellows Would Oryx and Crake work for option 2?

I believe a Crake is a type of bird.

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 2062 comments Yes, it works — I found a picture;) also, it’s a great book!

Zach Fellows Great thanks Karen!

Kristen (kristenia) | 1119 comments Would The Firebird work? The bird is mythical, it seems. It appears that this is a compound word, so should work, but just wanted to be sure.

Thanks!

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 2062 comments Yes, firebird works as a compound word even though it’s a mythical bird:)

Yes, I found some references to "redbreast" without "robin" before it in a search, so it counts:)

Jessica (bookwrm526) | 2106 comments Just checking, the word bird can also be plural? I was going to read All the Birds, Singing. Thanks!

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 2062 comments Yes, plurals are fine.

Molly | 166 comments Can I read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for option 2 or 3?

Option 2 - A phoenix is a mythical bird.
Option 3 - Remus Lupin is a main character and also a werewolf.

Thanks :)

A main character becomes a werewolf halfway through the book.
