annapi | 5505 comments Ok, I resisted putting my first two books of the month in this folder, because I thought that though there were elements of friendship in them, it was not a central theme of the stories. This book I feel belongs, because Eve's friendships (particularly that with her partner Peabody) are central to this whole series, and are a big part of what keeps me coming back to read it.

A board meeting to finalize the merger of two airline companies is devastated by a suicide bomber, an executive who has been threatened with the lives of his wife and child in order to carry out the deed. Eve brings Roarke into the investigation for his expertise in the world of high-stakes business to discover who benefits from the tragedy. The sideline light foil story is that of the upcoming Oscars where the movie based on Nadine's book of Eve's investigation is nominated for several categories, and Eve stubbornly refuses to go.

I would say this series is like candy to me, but it's so much more substantial than that, and I don't like sugar much, so it's more like comfort food. I love visiting Eve and Roarke twice a year, but I hate how quickly it ends. I enjoyed this one despite the weak motive for such a dramatic and terrible crime, because the author somehow manages to make you not care so much for motive, concentrating as usual on what keeps me coming back to the series - the characters. I'm looking forward to the next one in six months.

Good review. Shocking I have not read any of his books and I don't know why. I hear his books are really good. Love your review

Rachel, J.D Robb is really Nora Roberts! pseudonym she uses for this series

annapi | 5505 comments J & D are the initials of her sons, and Robb is obviously taken from Roberts.

Amy | 12931 comments After the first set was such a success, she finally started publishing under her own name. And the majority of books are now under her name. Those first represent her earliest works.

No-she still uses JD Robb-this is a new book, isn't it?

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Yes, she still uses JD Robb for In Death. She has also always published under Nora Roberts for her romance books (she had an early pen name for those that I can never remember but I think she gave it up after not too many books). As I understand it, she used the pen name Robb when she wanted to start the futuristic In Death books because of her already established romance reputation.

Annapi is the JD Robb super fan though—she is the one who finally talked me in to trying them after being a Roberts fan for decades—I am sure she knows the full story behind it!

annapi | 5505 comments You can read all about her in Wikipedia, which actually has more detail than her website: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nora_Ro...

I never knew about the plagiarism of her work by Janet Dailey until I read it just now, though!

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Every time I read about her, I am in awe of how much she writes! I cannot even imagine. She publishes 4-5 new books every year!
