Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) I have over 500 listed on goodreads TBR and they are all on my bookcases in my library! When I need a new book I never know which one to pick so I just shut my eyes and go along the shelves and stop at one!

Shelli Jo wrote: "Thats a good idea. Will you read those 10 in one month? "

Wow, wish I had the time!

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to try. I have a few of the books as audiobooks, so that should help me finish the list. If I don't finish it, then the unfinished books will move on to the next month. At least that's the plan for now.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Jo.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Jo, I was reading through your list and here are a few I think you definitely read soon:

The Hunger Games
Vampire Academy
Uglies
The Great Gatsby

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Hehe oh okay. Well, that one I read in high school, but I remember I enjoyed it more than most of the books required for school.

I wonder if our TBR is meant to get bigger (like it does) or not? It would be awesome to read them all and be caught up, but does anyone ever catch up? Just a thought...

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah I know. I would like to be able to read new books as they come out, but I can't seem to catch up on books I've been wanting to read in order to do that.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Exactly, but I'm working on it. Someday I will get closer to where I would like to be and then it won't be so overwhelming.

Jessica~CoinOperatedJoy | 319 comments Jo, oh good you read WHite Oleander! How did you like it??? You haven't read city of bones?!?! You need to get on that...right after American Psycho and the Bell Jar of course...;)

That is such a smart move! I have all teh Sookie Stackhouse books on audio! I just keep forgetting to transfer them from my home to my car! I hear it's a great version because the reader has a nice thick accent and does all the voices really well! Can you recommend any good audio books to me? The voice is EVERYTHING!

Woop woop! SO good! :) I am still working on a classic that I am re-reading for the sake of a thread. I should be starting American Psycho by the end of this week! Excited for Dracula and Frankie though! Every night I wait for Pash to start falling asleep before I whisper in his ear (in my most creepy voice) I vant to suck your blood! He is rarely amuzed when I do this but it brings a smile to my face so...WORTH IT!

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Oooh... good list! I hope you get a chance to read them all. Are you going to read Dracula and Frankenstein closer to halloween?

message 14: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 30, 2009 01:33PM) (new)

Here is an update since I read a few off the list.

In September I plan to read:

1. The Host 9/10/09
2. Something Borrowed
3. The Girls from Ames A Story of Women and Friendship
4. Blue Moon 9/1/09
5. The First Man in Rome
6. Chasing the Horizon Our Adventures Through the British Isles and France
7. Girl with a Pearl Earring 9/2/09
8. A Northern Light
9. Rebel Angels 9/17/09
10. The Sweet Far Thing 9/30/09

Books read not on the list:

Marked 9/18/09
Blood Promise 9/22/09
Catching Fire 9/27/09

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

2 Books at a time huh? Do you keep them in separate places or just switch back and forth when you feel like it? I usually have 2 or 3 books at a time because I keep one at home and have one at work. Then I usually also have an audiobook I am listening to while working.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

It was okay. I liked the story line, but the wording was very immature. I'm hoping as the series goes the wording will get better because my husband bought me the entire series. I am hoping to get through the rest of those after Catching Fire so I can also read Tempted when it comes out at the end of October.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

:) I liked the story, I think the series has potential.

Dean (cowboys86) | 122 comments I might as well make one, I'll do one for what I aim to read by the end of the year. I'm probably being a tad bit optimistic, especially with how slowly I'm reading Dracula right now.

Blood of the Fold
Blood Meridian Or the Evening Redness in the West
Dracula
Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde
Frankenstein
Gulliver's Travels
REAL Ultimate Power The Official Ninja Book
The Picture of Dorian Gray
The Tale of Genji

The Picture of Dorian Grary is one of the creepiest things I ever read! You're going to LOVE it. Great list! A few of those are on my TBR for October as well! Happy reading!

Hi Dean which edition of"The Tale Of Genji"are you giong to read?Have you ever read "The Diary of Lady Murasaki"unfortunately The Princeton Press no longer publish the version of this with her Poems included...

message 22: by Dean (new)

Dean (cowboys86) | 122 comments I was thinking of getting this one The Tale of Genji (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) by Murasaki Shikibu . Not sure if it's a good version or not.

No, I've never read it but I will certainly look out for it. I love stuff to do with Japanese culture ( so if you have anything else to recommend feel free!), I'm really hoping The Tale of Genji is as great as I've heard. Have you read it? What did you think of it?

Have you read Sei Shonogan's Pillow Book? She was considered the rival to Murasaki Shikibu, the writer of "The Tale of Genji." I thought that was an interesting book as it talks of court life and gives lists and bits of gossip and so on...

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

:) Yeah, it really depends on what the library gets first for me.

message 28: by DJ (new)

DJ (djdivaofjava) | 659 comments I`m hopeless at lists they would make me feel like I was at school, the way I do it is that one book leads me into another,so I have a treasure trail of books!!!

message 29: by Dean (new)

Dean (cowboys86) | 122 comments Happy Birthday Jo!

I won't complete my list... well I don't think I will. I'll be done with Blood Meridian and Dorian Gray at the same time and that will be half of it done then. But a couple I've got left are quite long.

message 30: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Harris Alright, I like this idea. I was just working on my 'books I own but haven't read list' and it's over 70 and I'm not done! So I've decided to create a challenge for myself. I'm going to (try to) read 4 books that I own per month to bring that # down. Theoretically, if I didn't buy any more books, I would be down to zero in a year & a half. lol .. but I don't imagine myself not buying another book for a year & a half .. heck, I can't even really imagine myself not buying another book for a WEEK & a half! 4 books a month is a low number, but I wanted to leave time for other books, in case I borrow, check out from the library, or those other books I'm 'not' going to buy in the meantime. :)

Sounds like I'm in good company here. Thanks everybody .. you've motivated me!

message 31: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Harris So here's my TBR list to start with. It includes a few books I don't own, but was already planning to read for another challenge.

**I own

The Traveler
Heart and Soul
**Barking: The Sound of a Language

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
**Little Women
**The Lost Symbol
Me of Little Faith
The Poisonwood Bible
**Water for Elephants
**The Nonrunner's Marathon Guide for Women
**From Baghdad With Love
**The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
**The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency
**The Girl Who Played With Fire
**For Whom the Bell Tolls
**Monday Night Jihad
Shanghai Girls
First They Killed My Father
Three Cups of Tea
**The Third Jesus

I'm hoping to have these completed by the end of the year. I think that's realistic. At least I hope so!

Melissa Harris Hey Linda Grace ... was it part of your challenge for October to read single word titled books? I just notice that (except #5) & thought it was funny. Coincidence? :)

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL I didn't even notice that! What a weird coincidence. I wonder what else I have at home to read that only has a one word title...

Melissa Harris I'm laughing out loud as I look back at this thread. Of my original list, and my revised list, I have read exactly 1 (ONE) book.

But I have read some GREAT books lately! Time to re-do my list, I do believe.

message 50: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Harris I forgot about it too Jo. In the last week I've agreed to 6 partner/group reads. Not one of them is on my list!

Maybe my list should be renamed "Books I Hope to Read Someday, Maybe"
