The story begins with the firefight that killed Hunter’s best friend, Scottie. Did it adequately set the tone for the rest of the story?

Laura It was exciting and action packed but at the time I wasn't sure why it was happening. I don't think it explained that part of it.

I first believed it was present day so when it transitioned, I was caught off guard. But, it was so helpful in understanding what drives Hunter and what tortured him.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 849 comments I was caught by what the relationship to the whole story was too. But after reading on it all became clear. It did set up why Hunter has the need to keep it strictly professional and the keep his distance emotionally.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 101 comments As I progressed through the story, I understood more of why Hunter was the way he was. And not much time passed between Scottie being killed and the story with Hunter and Khalia.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 180 comments I think it set up the book very well. I think it did a good job of outlining Hunter's character. Sometimes I'm often wondering what makes an Alpha-male tick and I never wondered with Hunter. I was surprised he went right back into action so close to Scottie's funeral though.

I thought he did so to honor Scottie because he clearly didn’t want to do it.
