Hi Everyone!

Sorry I'm so late posting, been busy.

I don't have a lot to report this week. I finished Twice Bitten which was a quick fluff to give me a break from my current read. It was just ok, I think the author is getting bored of the series and phoning it in.

Currently reading: S. Ship of Theseus. - Still plugging away at this, over half way. Whew! It's something of a project like I mentioned, not an easy read. I think i like it? I wish I found the actual novel part more interesting. I need to read it to understand all the notes, but it's not anything I'd normally pick to read.

Slade House - my current take-a-break book, it'll work for ATY's book that scares me. it's not that scary, But it's creepy so i'm counting it. iI don't like straight up horror. and I don't feel like diving into a big hefty intimidating classic at this point in the year.

I'm kind of blanking on a question of the week this week. It's been a long week, for all that it's short! If i think of something I'll come back and ask. If anyone else has a question, feel free to join in!

Daniele Powell (danielepowell) | 183 comments I polished off A Clash of Kings for the "book with twins" - which is kind of funny, since they don't meet once and are at opposite ends of the country for the entire novel. However, their relationship is pretty much at the heart of the entire GoT universe, come to think of it. That brings me to 37/40+10/10 for Popsugar. I'll also use it for ATY's book with a map prompt.

I turned to other challenge prompts to decide on my next audiobook, and picked up Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe for Book Riot's "Romance by or about a person of color". This isn't a romance in the bodice-ripper sense, but it's a great coming-of-age story where love is a central theme... and no one had told me it was read by the glorious Lin-Manuel Miranda! It was absolutely fabulous. I highly recommend it. I'm also fitting it into the ATY "own voices" prompt.

Which leads me to my question, for those of you doing challenges: was there a prompt you were dreading or way outside
your comfort zone and which wound up being a pleasant surprise?

For me, the romance and western prompts had me gritting my teeth, but I wound up enjoying both books very much!

Danielle, I loved Dante and Aristotle! I did the audio book which was narrated by Lin Manuel Miranda, he did a great job.

Thanks for a question!

I wasn’t feeling the Western prompt either, I admit I cheated on it a little by picking a western urban fantasy. I did enjoy it though. I also was dreading the true crime, did Catch me if You Can. It was an easy read, but I didn’t like Frank nearly as much as I did in the movie/stage adaptions, real Frank was pretty sleazy.

I went back to reading Artemis. I restarted the whole book. I got about 50-60 pages into it probably 7 months ago and another family member borrowed it to read (briefly only) but then I got distracted by other books. I didn't remember anything.

I also just got a book at the library off my want-to-read list, Get Well Soon: History's Worst Plagues and the Heroes Who Fought Them. I am only in the 2nd chapter and loving it so far. The author's writing style is very funny. It is surprising to read about such a topic and enjoy it so thoroughly. I have no idea where I heard about this book that I put it on my GR TBR list, maybe this list sometime? If not and you're looking for a non-fiction to enjoy try this.

And based on the recommendations above, I am getting the Dante and Aristotle audio book to listen to on my walks. I've had a neighborhood walking partner for over 20 years but she's now gone more than around so I'm mostly walking alone. This will be great. It is also highly recommended by my YA daughter who was visiting today when I mentioned it to my husband!

Daniele, if you want a real, non-fiction story about twins that is fascinating, I recommend Accidental Brothers: The Story of Twins Exchanged at Birth and the Power of Nature and Nurture.

I'm not doing a challenge so I cannot exactly answer that question. But if I think of something to say I'll come back!
