Shannon (planetshannon) | 28 comments Oh this was a bit of a rough section of reading for me, took a bit of a break in the middle of it.

I really enjoyed the Arya chapters, but they were also challenging because you see/feel that there is the opportunity of a reprieve by finding someone she knows, but than the horrible realization that they are taking her basically as a hostage. Ouch. Thank goodness they don't know who Gentry is.

The Catelyn chapter with Robb's return and reveal that he is now married to someone and therefore breaking the promise to someone who is supporting them was a really good chapter. Even though things have gone quite awry, it was nice to see some family together again.

I'm so saddened that the Samwell chapter felt like such a slog to get through. He is a character I really like, and was looking forward to seeing his perspective, but he complained the entire time and it was so hard to understand what was going on. It wasn't linear, I couldn't tell what had happened in the past vs the present, and it just felt like a mess. I know that can be a choice in terms of a character who is experiencing something really hard, but as a reader, it was a bumpy way to seem from a character for the first time. I guess it's a way for us to see what the Night's Watch is up to as Jon is with the wildings, but it was messy and disappointing.

One question... is it okay to mention stuff or ask a question of the book as it relates to the show? I don't know how many of us have watched the show, so I don't want to mention book vs TV and spoil anything. Would using spoiler html to hide questions/comments about the show be okay? Or is it better not to talk about the show?

I really struggled through this section. I enjoyed the Arya chapters as well but the rest just dragged.
