Nikki ~ The Nocturnal Bookworm (nyxreadsstuff) Discussion thread for The Shining by Stephen King. Remember to use spoiler tags where appropriate :)

Jack Torrance's new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he'll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote...and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old.

Valeria (valea22) | 64 comments This is a very good ghost story. Is very slow paced compared to other Stephen Books, so no my favorite by him but really good nevertheless.

Erin (everchanginglady) This is one of my all time favorite books. Stephen King is truly a master of the eerie. I agree though that it has a bit of a slow build up. But well worth it.

Nikki ~ The Nocturnal Bookworm (nyxreadsstuff) This is a reread for me, while I do remember most of the main plot points its interesting seeing the little details I dont remember.

Just finished part 1

I have been meaning to read this for years! I'm glad that this gave me the push to finally do it. I really enjoyed it. The mini-series follows the book more closely than the Jack Nicholson movie does. Now I want to watch both again!

FINALLY!

Kally (kallywumpus) | 8 comments I had a bad experience with a Stephen King novel early on, so I wasn't ecstatic about this choice. However, I know it's pretty popular and gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised at how engaging it was.

I have been rediscovering King in the past couple years and have been pleasantly surprised. I read a lot of King in high school and then picked up The Dark Tower series in my late 30s and loved it so I have been reading more of his books l am looking forward to reading Doctor Sleep now that I've read The Shining.
