Tuesday, Oct 2: What is your favorite thing about the fall season?

The cooler weather at night. I love sitting outside with my husband and a drink enjoying each others company and having the windows open while I sleep.

The trees changing color- but it also makes me sad because I know in a few days they will be bare and winter is just around the corner.

I also like the cooler weather at night ... good 'sleeping' weather. I like not having either AC or heat on in the house and keeping the windows open during the day (when it's not raining). And I love the fall colors.

I live in Minnesota and we have been running our furnace almost every day for the last week. We've been having 30's and 40's degrees. Our gas bill was nice over the summer but our electricity bill almost made up for it.

ilikeboox | 242 comments So relieved for the cooler weather like everyone else. I love to rake the leaves-it's good exercise. Much more rewarding than the treadmill! Also starting wear warmer clothes.

How to make change without a computer/calculator/"smart" register!

Spelling! I have a daughter who just graduated and she can't spell anything without spell check. My youngest is in elementary school (4th grade) and they still have spelling tests, but I know that will end next year when she moves into middle school.

Saturday, Oct 5 - Have you attended any of your high school reunions?

I went to my 50th earlier this year. What a blast from the past!

No. I've only had one so far - my 10th in 2013. But I was never well known or such in school. I figured I have stayed in contact with those I cared about and otherwise...I didn't really care lol. That, and it took place on the same day as my big birthday bash.

I never actually considered myself a "fast reader" but I've been told that so often that I guess it must be true. I do manage to consume about 180-200 books per year, but that includes audio.

Koren (koren56) | 768 comments Leah wrote: "Monday, Oct 9: Do you consider yourself a fast reader?"

Depends on how much I like the book. If i'm not really into it I read fast just to get it done. If I really like it I read slower to make it last longer.

Been to all of them. I went to a small school, around 60 in my class, so I know everyone. Its fun to see how much people have changed and to catch up on what they are doing.

In our school, a lot of the home ec. and vocational classes have been cut. I think that is a shame. Not everyone is cut out to go to college.

message 18: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissasd) | 948 comments Leah wrote: "Monday, Oct 9: Do you consider yourself a fast reader?"

It depends on the book. Really good books I get through quickly, but the less interesting one take me longer.

Leah wrote: "Monday, Oct 9: Do you consider yourself a fast reader?"

It depends on what context. With my family and friends, yes. Here on Goodreads, I'm slow do to these extremely fast readers. I do read 2 to 3 hours a night and I go through around 100 pages. Recently, school has gotten in the way.

I know I don't get enough exercise. It's not something I even have to think about. :-)

Absolutely NOT. I spend far too much time sitting at my computer and/or reading. I try to sneak in some exercise with making multiple trips up/down the stairs and when I go to the grocery store, even if it's for just getting a gallon of milk, I make myself walk up and down every aisle just to get more steps in.

Pumpkin. Also the cooler weather. I hate to sweat.

Sheila | 532 comments Leah wrote: "Thursday, Oct 11: Do you think you get enough exercise?"

I don't. I don't own a car so I have to take the bus or walk. Plus I have a lot of steps in my house. I spend too much time on the computer, reading, watching TV, doing crafts.

message 25: by Sheila (new)

Sheila | 532 comments Leah wrote: "Monday, Oct 9: Do you consider yourself a fast reader?"

Totally depends on the book and what I have going on any given day. Some books go fast because I just sit down and read straight through. Others feel like they take forever because I have so much scheduled I don't have time to pick them up for longer than 15 minutes at a stretch.

message 26: by Sheila (new)

Sheila | 532 comments Leah wrote: "Wednesday, Oct 3: What is something that should be taught in school that isn't?"

The simple daily tasks we don't think about--sewing on a button, balancing a check book, grocery shopping, paying bills, using credit

message 27: by Koren (new)

Koren (koren56) | 768 comments Leah wrote: "Thursday, Oct 11: Do you think you get enough exercise?"

Definitely not. I have a fitness tracker so I'm lucky if I get 8,000 steps a day. I'd like to get up to 10,000 but then we had a week of rain so my daily average went down a lot. In the winter exercise will be non-existant unless I go to the fitness center. That's a hard thing to get motivated to do.

English, grammar and spelling. I was the only kid I knew that loved diagramming sentences. I wish they had the spelling bees they have now when I was a kid. I think I could have won. Dont ask me to know those things now. I've forgotten most of it. I still think I'm a good speller, though.

I hated history in school, but I love it now and love reading presidential bios and trivia.
