How do you guys feel about fantasy illustrator Dan dos Santos? He's definitely an illustrator whose work I've seen on many modern fantasy covers, but a lot of what I've seen I didn't really like. For instance, he illustrated all of Patricia Briggs's Mercy Thompson covers, and I feel that he makes Mercy look a lot more... slutty (or at least impractical)... than she really is. The books never indicate that she goes out into the cold weather wearing nothing but a revealing tank-top and tight pants! And even though she is only supposed to have one tattoo, dos Santos often gives her many different ones that change with each painting.

But I have seen some very nice illustrations of his, as well. My friend is cosplaying a character from Wheel of Time this year at Dragon*Con (where dos Santos himself is usually in attendance) and she has based her costume on one of his pictures. He's also done some nice Firefly artwork.

So, thoughts?

I love his art. In fact his cover for the 3rd Mercy Thompson book is what drew me to that series. The ladies are a bit scantily clad but I give him a pass because the art is so beautiful.
