Win Scott Eckert (win_scott_eckert) | 37 comments Life has dealt me some major blows over the past 2 months, which have really derailed my writing. (I won't get in to that here.) However, I have been reading, preparatory to getting back to writing. Some of these are re-reads, a few for the third or fourth or even fifth time, but still instructive.

The Greatest Adventure by our own Christopher Paul Carey (especially 2 key essays)

The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym by E. R. Poe (can be found many places, I read it in The Antarktos Cycle from Chaosium)

An Antarctic Mystery (The Sphinx of the Ice Fields) by Jules Verne (The Antarktos Cycle has the relevant excerpts)

At the Mountains of Madness by H. P. Lovecraft (in The Antarktos Cycle)

Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell (in The Antarktos Cycle)

Up from Earth's Center by Kenneth Robeson (Lester Dent)

Escape from Loki by P. J. Farmer

Fortress of Solitude by Kenneth Robeson (Lester Dent)

The Golden Man by Kenneth Robeson (Lester Dent)

Of course, as a part of my research, preparatory to writing, I will also be reviewing my own work to ensure I don't contradict myself:

- The Evil in Pemberley House
- The Scarlet Jaguar
- "The Wild Hunstsman"
- "The Adventure of the Fallen Stone"
- Hunt the Avenger (forthcoming - hopefully Moonstone will announce it soon)
- A Girl and Her Cat

So... what am I getting ready to write? (assuming life doesn't deal me any more crushing blows...)

Frank | 1 comments THE MONSTER ON HOLD? (I hope!).

Ted (tedeg) | 6 comments I'm most looking forward to the Korak-in-Pellucidar book, myself.

It's funny, although I've been a Tarzan fan since before I ever heard of Farmer, I've never read Burroughs other major hero, John Carter. This oversight I plan to correct as soon as I've finished up a couple non-WNU books.

And speaking of "Who Goes There?", there's a Kickstarter going on currently for an alleged expanded version of the story by Campbell, being published under the name "Frozen Hell".

Win Scott Eckert (win_scott_eckert) | 37 comments Fair enough, but I'm committed to deliver Monster before the Korak book. :-) Truly appreciate your interest.

Yes, I have also contributed to that Kickstarter?

Win Scott Eckert (win_scott_eckert) | 37 comments Not a question mark, sorry... I have contributed to that Kickstarter!

Loki | 1 comments You're not planning something... Antarctical are you Win? :)

message 8: by Win (new)

Win Scott Eckert (win_scott_eckert) | 37 comments Loki, at least something that may have come from the Antarctic. ;-) Of course, Phil's Monster fragment says that in Doc Caliban's universe, certain beings *inspired* Lovecraft's writings, so take that for what you will. :-)

Ted (tedeg) | 6 comments So, not too long ago I finished the first three John Carter books, and found then everything they were reputed to be. No idea why I didn't read them years ago.

Next month I was thinking of getting Flashman from the library, and while investigating this discovered the existence of a previously unknown (?) 21st century descendant, Harry Flashman and the Invasion of Iraq.

Win Scott Eckert (win_scott_eckert) | 37 comments Never heard of that new Flashman book; do you know if it's authorized?

message 11: by Ted (new)

Ted (tedeg) | 6 comments No idea. The only thing I can find about the origins is that it's based on the author's own military experience.
