The book I am currently reading is Choke by Chuck Palahniuk, It is a fantasy book, So far my book is peculiar, but a delight to read. The main character is Victor Mancini, a medical school drop out, and a sex addict, who is going to a sex addict recover workshop. To pay for his mentally ill mother's treatment at the funny farm, He pretends to choke on food at various food restaurants. This then gives him the chance to be saved by fellow patrons, who later feels the need to send him checks to support him, he chooses to do this because his low- paying job at a eighteenth century based colonial theme park isn't paying the bills. Victor is a joker and a bad friend, perhaps a person you don't want to be caught up with, because he lies and seems like he doesn't care about others because how he treats others around him. Victor faces a conflict when his mother has to get a feeding tube, since she is not eating. This will be difficult for him because he has to almost die and choke on a lot of food to get the money up for his mother, If he doesn't get the feeding tube, She will die of starvation. At the same time a doctor named Paige Marshall wants to have sex with him, He certainly wants to, but he also wants to stay sober from sex.
I wonder if Victor is going to save his mother from starving to death, because on page one hundred sixteen, Paragraph three Paige quotes '' If there's anything you can do to save her and you don't, you're killing her with neglect''. Even though his mother didn't treat him well, if he loves her he will save her life. I don't think Victor will stop his sex addiction, maybe; but so far I doubt it. I am also amazed he can live his life like this, choking on food to get money, going through a sex addiction, interesting fellow, but not a fellow for a good friend. Does your character in your book struggle with addiction? Is he or she as weird as Victor Mancini?
