Shannon (planetshannon) | 28 comments I think I've finally hit a good pattern with reading the book. Only took halfway to get there!

That said, I'm getting so tired of the gender crap going on there. The Brienne chapters are just filled with repeated comments to how "ugly" she is, and the frequency mention of rape is ridiculous. Also, the having 2 chapters that either don't bother naming it by the name of the character (The Queensmaker, is focused on Arianne, but she is unsuccessful at that task), and than switching Sansa chapter to Alayne is clever in a way, but very disempowering.

It was nice to have a Jaime chapter, and to see someone going out in the world (although Arianne did too... I like her). And it is interesting how now we are seeing the toll on the world of the fighting, not only that people have been looted from and such, but also that people haven't had time to plant which is going to be bad news for everyone.

The chapters with Cersei are so bitter, I find them a bit hard to take. Also, there are so many new people she talks to and has appointed (or still needs to appoint), that I have a hard time remembering who is who, and it's hard to gauge how important it is to remember who is who considering survival rate in this series isn't stellar.

I did enjoy the Samwell chapter, even though it feels like a whole different story going on than everyone else. I'm glad he took a stand to the singer-dude, or well, more than took a stand. We shall see how that all shakes out. Oddly, a lot of that was focused on how ill the Maester was, but I totally thought he had passed away on the ship in the previous Sam chapter.

Question: In the Samwell chapter, was the person who talked to him and gave him clams, was that supposed to be Arya? She called herself Cat. If yes - wow! Cool! But are they on the other side of the water/ocean? My book only has maps of The North, The South and The Iron Isle, but not where Arya went.

Looking forward to hearing peoples thoughts on this section!
