No, I don't think it's wrong. I have a whole mountainside of books that I know I'm not going to get to...
Good luck knocking these off your mountain in the new year!
Good luck knocking these off your mountain in the new year!

I saw on your list: Assembling California by John McPhee. I read that earlier this year (library book). I enjoyed it! Glad I read it. I'm by no means a geologist and while reading I had to look some up some of the words. The book needed a glossary. Other than that I loved it. Most likely will be reading more McPhee in the future. Hope you enjoy it!

Pamela, glad you liked it! I purchased Assembling California about 3 years ago at Powell's in Portland. I had been wanting to read it, so of course I snatched it up when I saw it there. Really looking forward to it, though somehow it keeps slipping down the pile. I am a science writer myself (although my specialty is molecular biology, so I'm sure I'll be looking up plenty of geology terms) and McPhee is one of the best.

Owned since 2018

Book 6 completed
The Language of Thorns: Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic by Leigh Bardugo
4 stars
owned since July 2018
This was my first book by Leigh Bardugo and I found it very inventive without being too pointed about its inventiveness, if you know what I mean. It's always a danger with fairy tale retellings to be a little too clever about the switch-up, and then the different point of view itself ends up being the crux of the story and the narrative suffers. In this case, the stories were mostly familiar foundations, but the changes were fundamental enough that the story felt novel. Really well done. And the illustrations, of course, are phenomenal - I don't tend to hold on to books once I've read them, but I'll be keeping this one to share.

Book 7 completed
Crosstalk by Connie Willis
4 stars
owned since Dec 2018
This one started off a little bit weak but gained steam as the plot got going. I couldn't resist the cute romance coupled with exploration of social and psychological questions. Fun, entertaining, and satisfying.

Book 8 completed
Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett
3 stars
owned since ... summer 2017, I think?
Enjoyable but not particularly memorable entry into the Discworld franchise. My first introduction to Granny Weatherwax. Looking forward to reading more in the witches' series.

Book 9 completed
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
5 stars

Book 11 completed
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
