Great American Read List discussion

Does anyone know why PBS would feature [u]I, Alex Cross[/u], out of all the Alex Cross series? It seems liked they featured the first book of a series for all the other serial selections. This is number 16. Is it the best of the bunch? Will I know what's going on without reading the preceding 15?

I think PBS chose the I, Alex Cross book from the Alex Cross series, because of the 26 books the series includes that title name represents the series name best.

I did ask members if it was necessary to read them in order and Loretta answered that it was.
I haven't had the pleasure of reading the Alex Cross series yet, but hopefully members that have will comment with more insight.

If the Alex Cross series wins a group book series poll we will read them together, but there won't be a new book series poll until February 7ᵗʰ. We'll be reading the Lonesome Dove series until February 28ᵗʰ. We'll begin a new series in March.

Wow, I just checked, and there are a LOT of books in the Alex Cross series!

I started reading the Alex Cross series when they were first released and made it to book #5. I'd love to participate in a group read of this series. Looking forward to the poll.
