M.K. Williams (1mkwilliams) | 41 comments Sorry if this topic is in the wrong section, trying to see if anyone else has has issues with Bowker/MyIdentifiers over the past few days. I needed to go in and purchase ISBNs. I went through the same steps that I did a few years ago but I was blocked from adding a payment method. I reached out to their tech support and they said that the payment functionality had been turned off because of a website issue and to purchase through a third party site. The purchased ISBNs would show up but I wouldn't be able to edit them for an unknown period of time. Has anyone else had this issue? Am I being paranoid, or is this really weird?

Thanks!
MK

Kimberly Hockaday | 79 comments No I do not use it. But reports from established publishers have stated that Bowker have been hacked and credit cards stolen. So if you have used your credit card to purchase an ISBN number, you need to check your credit card statement to see if there are any charges on it that you did not make.

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments Hmm . . . we've used it for a number of years in connection with our publishing business. I haven't been out there lately, though, and haven't yet received any info from Bowker about a breach. Looks like it has been, though. I've located some info that confirms it.

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments Publisher's Weekly has a short article. Not a lot of information, but it's kinda scary:
