Ashley (ashleydreaming) I decided to break the discussion board up into sections so we could discuss the book without accidentally spoiling anyone since we won't all read at the same pace

Allison C (spellboundreader) | 3 comments I honestly forgot how much I dislike Rainbow's writing style. It is almost to juvenile to be considered YA. In my opinion anyway. Carry On is the only book of her's that I was ever able to complete.

If you find that this book has similar parallels and tropes as Harry Potter - then you would be correct! If you jump to the acknowledgements at the end of the book she explains why. I bring this up because these blatant stolen story lines bothered the shit out of me my first time reading this book. But remember that this is a fanfiction... of a fanfiction? This story if meant to be cute and fluffy, not hard hitting literature lol.

And honestly I am just waiting (not so patiently) for Baz to show up on page. #TeamBaz #BiteMe lol

Fiona (biblio_fi) | 4 comments I just don't know what I think so far. I read Fangirl a couple of years ago and I was prepared for this to be my light read during time topple. I agree the writing is immature.

I am finding for a Harry potter referencing fanfiction of fanfiction it's kinda snidy towards potter. There have been lots of little offhand comments to the potter plot that are almost dismissive and I don't know if they are supposed to be dismissive of potter or if it's Cath of Fangirl being dismissive of the Simon snow series in her fan fiction (am I giving rainbow Rowell to much credit by overcomplicating this?).

I just don't know if I am actually in the mood for fluffy, I have been told to hold on for Baz. I might do that before I decide if I should DNF.

Belle Gater | 1 comments Im only half way through Goblet of Fire so I don't think I'm getting lot of the Harry Potter references. I think its making it more enjoyable for me, I mean I see the huge similarities but I'm not going 'oh thats referencing so-and-so in Harry Potter'.

Although I will agree that the writing is very childish but its a break from some of the other things I'm reading.

Allison C (spellboundreader) | 3 comments I’m finding most of the references are from book six of HP. But I don’t think anything should spoil you in these books lol

Fiona (biblio_fi) | 4 comments I haven't found direct references to HP as such it's more a lot of sideeye - like the Mage sitting Simon down at age 11 and telling him everything about the Humdrum or the students doing their own chores at Watford instead of magic etc. I am just noticing tiny digs.

I am liking the magic system all being song and movie titles though. that's cute!
