idiffer | 765 comments I'll post anything fantasy that I find interesting/original and not very well-known. You're all welcome to post here.
First up:

Black Wine

"Feminist" fantasy/sci-fi that deals with sexuality and rape and all things unpleasant.

message 2: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments The Palace Job

Heist book. Has a lot of ratings and is on alot of lists, but not on any I would check out.

message 3: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments The Tooth Fairy

dark fantasy about the titular character and a boy.

message 4: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Spindle

A twist on the sleeping beauty I guess?

Ah man I love this book! Read it when I was in college. It was indeed very dark.

message 6: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments A Brother's Price

book where females outnumber males 1 to 10

message 7: by Siobhan (new)

Siobhan (poi5ongirl) | 8702 comments Have you read all these books idiffer? I notice you've shelved a few as not-interested. Do you just think others would like them more than you? :)

message 8: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Yeah, I only tried to read the last one I posted + spindle + palace job (dropped all of them). But I find 5 star reviews of the shittiest books, so someone is bound to like these ones.

message 9: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments A lot of these sound interesting especially the first one and I really hope the rape isn’t some wet dream or a common occurrence since I do like the idea of the role of women in a normal fantasy

message 10: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments The Princess's Dragon

princess gets turned into a dragon

Saul the Heir of Isauldur (krinnok) | 209 comments Swords and Deviltry by Fritz Lieber

He wrote fantasy too, even though he was better known for his sci fi. It's about two thieves doing thievery things and being sword and socery-y

message 12: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Bernie and the Putty
the MC builds universes for a living

message 13: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Dungeon Born
MC is a... dungeon oO

message 14: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments A Wizard's Dark Dominion

the synopsis seems intriguing

This sounds weirdly intriguing... :)

message 16: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Towing Jehovah

The corpse of god is found on Earth.
Shitty book judging by some reviews, but still - original premise.

message 17: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Smiler's Fair

not that high a rating on GR + only 750 ratings + synopsis isn't that original, but smth grabbed me and I read it.
has lots of twists + really grimdark for a woman author.
overall, an underrated fantasy series, even the multiple pov's read ok here.

Right?

message 19: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments surprisingly, there is a whole list of books with this premise on GR

message 20: by Virginie (new)

Virginie | 6109 comments Just saw the list. I didn't expect that :O
It makes for a good reserve of reads for when I get tired of the usual fantasy settings :D

message 21: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments The Scholomance

weird book. magic school setting with demon sex.

message 22: by Julia (new)

Julia | 122 comments idiffer wrote: "Spindle

Yes, it is meant to be a Sleeping Beauty re-write! Much like how the first book was a re-write of One Thousand and One Nights/The Arabian Nights.

message 23: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Good Intentions

The only fantasy erotica novel I've come across written by a man.
Pure wish fulfilment for nice guys

message 24: by Jeffrey (new)

Jeffrey (jwhitsitt) | 35 comments I liked the Daniel Black series by E. William Brown

Fimbulwinter (Daniel Black, #1) by E. William Brown Black Coven (Daniel Black, #2) by E. William Brown Extermination (Daniel Black, #3) by E. William Brown Thrall (Daniel Black, #4) by E. William Brown

Interesting magical system with Norse and Greek mythology thrown in. Also page turning plot.

message 25: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments @jeffrey

Thx, I'll actually check the series out despite the bad reviews.

Jeffrey (jwhitsitt) | 35 comments I'll be interested in what you think of it

You gotta be kidding! What a synopsis!!! I'm reading this.

message 36: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Trick

Has over a thousand ratings but is only on 2 lists, so I'll count that as obscure. Dunno why, but the synopsis grabbed me.

message 37: by idiffer (last edited Jul 03, 2019 04:19AM) (new)

idiffer | 765 comments So I want to update this thread with some web fiction that is very undervoted on GR (as all web fiction is), but is nonetheless pretty good. Which means I've read these, and think they're interesting.

Mother of Learning (this serial is ALMOST finished)
You can't copy the text from the source site, but there are up to date epubs floating around.
Heretical Edge (2-3k pages in, but nowhere near finished)
Text may be copied, no epubs found.
Twig (this serial is finished, thank god)
Text may be copied, at least partial epubs may be found.

PS. I think there are patreon accounts for all these, so you know, if you've got money to throw around... do it!

message 38: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments PPS.
If you want to read any of these, but don't want the hassle of copying text for 30 min or searching for epubs, I've got fb2 for almost all the content listed in previous post. PM me.

Elizabeth (fantasynerd365) | 1229 comments The Whitefire Crossing.

Really good book with barely 2k ratings. This book deserves to become more well known.

message 40: by Navi (new)

Navi (nvsahota) | 0 comments So many great suggestions! I've bookmarked this thread for future tbr possibilities :)

message 41: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Aaaand one more web serial
The Gods are Bastards

This one is special cause the writing, plot and characters are all on the level of good traditionally published books.
The dialogue is often pretty funny, which high praise coming from me.

message 42: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Awakening

fantasy but with telepathic aliens.

message 43: by Sterling (new)

Sterling (sterling1989) | 272 comments So I've been lost in an incredible original work on Ao3 called Worth the Candle. It's a LitRPG that is heavily influenced by home-brewed D&D campaigns, I'm over 100 chapters in and it's been simply incredible.

The characters are complicated and challenging, and the entire story is wonderfully written. I couldn't find a way to support the writer monetarily, so I figured the least I could do is share his work with any interested people. A lot of the term's and concepts are unique to tabletop gaming and while the writer does a good job explaining them that's the one drawback I can see with this work.
