Were you surprised to learn that Christian was responsible for his sister’s death or had you already suspected him? Why did he turn on his friend and try to set him up? What do you think of his decision to kill himself?

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments I was sad that it was him. It was an accident and that could've been forgivable but his choices after that...much less so. I don't think I ever really suspected him until just before it was revealed.

I’m not sure at what point I started to suspect him but I did before Sebastian figured it out. There was just something about his behavior that was off. And when he implicated Liam, it made no sense.

Joanna | 139 comments I suspected him in the beginning. I thought it might have had something to do with politics. But what I thought happened was that he was trying to keep her out of trouble like he'd gotten into and killed her accidentally.

Could it be that he was jealous of his friend? He knew that Jane had grown closer to his friend during their time in prison. Also, he possibly thought his friend had more courage than him since he continued his old life once out of prison. Both ideas probably stuck in his head making him bitter and jealous.

Killing himself seemed, at least in his mind, less brutal than what he faced.

Good points, Joanna!

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments I began to suspect him after his accusations against Liam as well. The events began to remind me of an earlier book where the victim was killed by her brother because she was going to inform his fiancee about a hereditary disease.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 242 comments I didn't suspect him at all. I thought he was too damaged by his time in prison to do anything that would put him back there.

It is sad because he loved his sister. Even if he admitted to accidentally killing his sister, I think that would put him in mental prison. Regardless of how it happened, he would kill himself eventually.
