Maeve plays a significant role in the story and we learn more about her life before coming to live with Sarah. Did you think The Professor recognized her before the seance?

Phrynne | 607 comments Yes I did and I thought she was playing a very dangerous game!

I thought so, too, Phrynne. She deliberately held that back because she wanted to participate in that ruse. Maeve took a huge risk.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments Yes, and yes -- she really risked herself to be a sleuth!

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments I have mixed feelings about Maeve but I'll wait until further into the series to see what others think. Uh, it's nothing bad or spoilery, just having to do with her overall role in the story.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments I also have mixed feelings about Maeve and the direction Thompson is taking her character. Sarah is taking more of a back seat to the action and Maeve is replacing her. I don't like it.

I hadn’t thought of it that way. Hmmmm.....

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments I just read a review where someone mentioned that Sarah was a secondary character in this book (and the last) while Maeve had the spotlight. Of course, I didn't notice it while I was reading the book, but they're right.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 242 comments I see Maeve differently. I like that they are including her more. She is slowly moving from "a woman's job" to something that is more "man's work." Depending on where the series goes in the future, she can be a new woman who is taken more seriously.

I don't see Sarah moving away from helping Frank solve the murders, she is the star of the series. I can see her sharing her detective duties with Maeve. The goal of the mission is to prepare women to fend for themselves. I see Sarah doing that for Maeve.

Completely agree, Sharon!
