If Lena had to hear another minute of atomic orbitals, she was going to s c r e a m.

It was her fault, really, for signing up for AP chem. She was still very unsure of what degree she wanted to get after high school (if any) and her counselor suggested trying out some harder sciences after doing alright in previous years.

But Lena was not having chemistry. Which was funny, because she dealt with hormones and chemicals on an almost daily basis.

It was just so much easier to see and manipulate the effects of those chemicals than to study their basis and whatever the teacher was talking about now. Frankly, she hadn't been paying attention for a while, just looking around the classroom for some fun. She could always tell her desk neighbor about the juicy juicy gossip she had heard about her boyfriend on the girl's locker room, or see if the sleepy football player at the end of the row would be down for something. Choices, choices.

Hunter sat in his desk with his elbows resting on the surface of it and his hand holding his head up. He was staring up ahead to the teacher who went on about chemicals and their charges and paring... and some other shit that he lost track of. Personally, he didn’t care about them. It wasn’t because he was dumb, because he wouldn’t even be in this class in the first place, but he was just really bored and listening to the teacher go on and on was starting to make him sleepy.

In fact, his body was starting to get sore from the position he’s been in so he moved to stretch out his arms. As he did so, he pushed his notebook forward a little which in turn pushed his pencil at the end of his desk off, making roll on the ground before him to stop under a students chair. Shit.

Looking up to see who it was, Hunter found Lena, which made him smile. At least it was her and not someone he didn’t know. “Yo! Lena.” He called out for her in a hushed voice. “Can you get my pencil. It rolled under your chair.”

Lena was getting tired, practically about to take her phone out and text the football player when she heard a very familiar hushed voice that made her turn her head. She smiled playfully.

Oh Hunter. In Warwick it's pretty hard to miss someone you grew up with, and Lena was actually good friends with the boy. Unlike popular opinion, succubi didn't want to have sex with everyone they met. It wasn't that she didn't think the boy was attractive, he definitely was, but they had become friends in elementary school, before she had...changed. When she was Marlena Mae instead of Lena, before the parties and the booze when it was just swings and face paint. When you knew that much about someone, you can't feed on their energy. (or whatever it was that she did)

"I think I'll keep it." She whispered back, bending down to pick it up and rolling it around in her fingers. She hoped he wouldn't be a goody-two-shoes, because she was bored, and in desperate need of entertainment. "It doesn't look like you're gonna be missing it anyways."

Hunter met Lena’s eyes when she turned to look at him. He saw her playful smile, which was very contagious. He found himself smiling, too. She always managed to do that whenever they were together, and he liked that.

She was one of the many reason he still made friends and hung around people that weren’t like him, even though his parents tell him not to. She brought out parts of him that he really enjoyed ever since they were kids.

When she knew what he wanted, Hunter watched her bend over to get his pencil. He was ready to lean forward to take it, only to have her turn him away. “Lena,” he said in a hushed voice. “I need it for my notes.” His brows raised as he saw the mischievous look in her eyes, and though he knew he shouldn’t play around at a moment like this, she was beckoning him to. Knowing she wasn’t going to give it back, he said with a small smirk, “Fine. What do I have to do to get it back, Lena Murdock?”

Lena just kept smiling that playful smile as Hunter talked to her. The smile that was almost almost the same she used to get what she wants. Of course it's not just the smile that plays the part, Lena's entire being was designed to be enticing. For now though, just for a little while, she was the mischievous child teasing a friend.

Eyeing the teacher to make sure he was looking the other way, Lena turned her face a little to catch his smirk. "We both know you're not taking notes, boy scout." She whispered, the familiar nickname reminding her how different they really were. "And well, I think you'll have to do me a favor, Hunter Landon." She finished, her smirk mirroring his. "How do you feel about parties?"

Lucas softly chuckled, both at the fact that she was right about him not really taking notes, and because she called him Boy Scout. She always used that to tease him, even though he argued that he wasn’t one. Sometimes he wasn’t as reckless as she was, or as she became to be after middle school, and that was because of his parents mostly.

“A favor?” He asked, feeling skeptical. He knew how wild Lena could get, and doing a favor for her probably wasn’t a good idea. But watching her look back to him with a smirk like that, and actually wanting his pencil, he decided to go ahead with her favor. After all, what could be so bad if it involved a party? Right.

“Mixed feelings. Why?” He asked her.

message 7: by Jupiter (new)

Jupiter | 171 comments

"Mixed feelings?" She asked teasingly "There's booze, music, and bodies," Lena's three favorite things "What more could you ask for?"

Overall though, Hunter's tone pleased Lena, because, as always, it showed that she got to him. She sighed with a smile. Sometimes it was just too easy. Then again, she had known him for years, so when she asked for a favor it made sense that he would agree, friends did other friends favors, right?

Except what Lena had in mind wasn't exactly a favor. "It's more of a...dare, actually." She explained, twirling his pencil in her fingers.

“You make it sound like those three things are not a recipe for a disaster,” he points out to her. He knew Lena’s love for these things now, but for him, it could end badly. Not because he didn’t want any of those things. But because his parents didn’t want him involved with any of those things. Not booze, not bodies, but maybe music, unless it involves the other two stuff. Then it’s a no no.

Yet, here he was still going on with her favor, or dare now. He just kept on telling himself that it wasn’t a bad thing. That he could handle it. “A dare?” He said in his hushed voice as if contemplating it.

Hunter noticed the teacher start to walk around the class, so he leaned back in his chair and focused on him for a moment as if he wasn’t doing anything. Once the teacher was back at the front, he went on.

“If this dare is a threesome with you and someone else, I’m telling right now Lena, don’t even think about it.” He warns her, both as a joke and seriously.

Lena stifled a giggle. It was just like Hunter to be hesitant when it came to parties. For as long as she had known him, he had been far from a party animal. While parties were Lena's territory (you can't be a succubus and be away from the prime hunting ground), Hunter attended few parties, if any, which she suspected it was due to his family. He didn't talk about his family much, but they seemed to be pretty strict with him, especially in terms of who he hung out with. Lena had only met them once, and that was enough to be convinced that they did not want her near their son. Which was a shame, really, because they actually had a lot of fun together when they hung out, something that she noticed had not been as common as before.

Well that had to change.

Lena kept twirling the pencil, now much more engaged but not by whatever chemistry concept the teacher was droning on about, but by having Hunter on edge. She used his pencil to doodle as to keep up appearances that she was taking notes, but her attention was fully on the boy behind her. It was silly really, but having a dare with Hunter had the potential to be immensely fun.

Lena bit her matte red lip with Hunter's hushed words. Truth be told, she didn't think he had it in him to have such a dirty imagination. It was refreshing to see the Boy Scout in another light. Come think of it, Lena wasn't sure of what was Hunter's romantic and sexual experience. She knew of a girlfriend, or maybe two? But it was hard to imagine her childhood friend in that...position.

Well, not too hard.

She turned to him with a pout. "You're no fun Landon," she whispered in fake disappointment. "that's the best way to end the night." She half teased with a smirk, biting the end of the pencil softly. "One night out partying with me and I can make you lose all inhibitions boy scout." She liked playing around with Hunter, so she figured she'd keep him guessing for a little while longer. "But don't worry, there's other things I could dare you to do." She sighed and bit her lip as if deep in thought. "Skinny dipping, keg stands..." She finally turned to him with her playful smirk and an eyebrow raised. "The question is, how far will you go?"

Watching Lena act like her self, sometimes he wondered how come he wasn’t driven crazy. The teasing. Lip biting. Pencil in her mouth. Surely it would be a enough to drive a boy crazy with need, and maybe it would do the same with him, but he never really allowed himself to look at her that way. Yes, occasionally some things would cross his mind when she did the little actions that made her... well, her. But he would quickly push them away because it was wrong. It was Lena, his friend. He shouldn’t think of her that yeah. Damn hormones, though. They never agreed with his mind... well heart really since their chemistry teacher said the mind actaully did control their hormones.

Hearing her go on with wild ideas, he just stared at her in disbelief. “You're crazy,” he tells her. These were things he never tried and didn’t even think he would try.

Hearing her last question brought a devilish smirk to his lips, and he couldn’t help but softly chuckle, careful so the teacher wouldn’t hear them. “What is it you have in mind, Lena? Your killing me with this mystery.”

Lena liked to think that she knew exactly what was going on with those she flirted with. Most of the time she was correct, she had come to learn most people are as filthy-minded as you'd think. And it usually didn't bother her, she was a succubus, she was supposed to awaken those thoughts, right? But with Hunter...she couldn't be sure. They had known each other for so long that she was unsure that he could see her as more than a friend. She felt a pang of guilt for flirting him, well aware that this was the same treatment she gave every single one-night stand she ever had, but the curiosity of how he'd react overcame the guilt easily.

She chuckled softly. "Not crazy, just..." she dangled the word for a second before lowering her voice to a barely audible whisper. To the word she knew he longed for, to the word she had fought for with tooth and claw in a family of repressed succubi. "Free"

Despite his hesitant comments, Hunter's smiles and questions told her that he was enjoying their little game. "Well, a lady has to keep the mystery, no?" She asked, giving him a little smug smile. "But if you really want to know," She sighed, as if defeated, before changing to a devilish tone "first you're going to have to go to a party," she turned to him with a smirk "and then the fun will begin."

Hearing the word free, Hunter’s mixed feelings about it came to his mind. For him, he had two ways of freedom. One was when he was in his wolf form, running in the woods and howling at the moon. He enjoyed that freedom very much. Cherished it, really. It was an amazing feeling, one that he didn’t think he could give up. But then the other freedom was the one he craved from his parents, where he could do whatever he wants. That’s the one he hasn’t tasted, and Lena was making it look very tempting. But he had to fight himself at times, remind himself of the pack and how important that is to him. How important his parents are to him. So he never fully gave in. Like now, he was agreeing to go with her, to have fun. But not give in and lose everything he still held on to. “It’s a dare then,” he finally tells her with a pleased smile.

Lena smiled, pleased with his response. "Are you going to the New Year's ball?" she asked, wondering how they could escape the prying eyes of everyone in town to really get him to loosen up. She was much more interested in scheming how she was going to get innocent Hunter to give up his innocence. She knew a couple of girls who would be more than happy to help her, but honestly she knew Hunter wasn't ready for anything too crazy. She wanted him to loosen up and have fun, but she was also realistic, and frankly didn't want to lose his friendship for going too far. Although it wouldn't be the first one. After the curse Lena changed friends almost completely, many pulled away and began to gossip about her, but Hunter had remained there. Respectful and polite, maybe a little too stiff, but he had stayed. And Lena wasn't about to ruin it for one night of fun.

Hunter thought about her question about the ball. He hadn’t really put much thought into it until now because he was actually avoiding thinking about it, and that was because of how complicated it was to make a decision. He wanted to go, that much was obvious. But he didn’t think his parents would approve of it. They never did each year. Last year he didn’t go, but he did go the year before, and got hell for it from them. Still, he was still thinking of a way to go. I could just convince them that my class mates will get suspicious if I don’t go. He thought to himself. Maybe they would worry about their secret and let him go. If that doesn’t work, he could sneak out. So he answered, “Hopefully. I mean that is the plan.” Then he thought of what she was asking of him earlier and he narrowed his eyes at her. “Please tell me you're not going to have me do something crazy there. Everyone is going to be there!” With the worry he felt, his voice slightly rose, which caught the attention of the teacher. “Mr. Landon and Mrs. Murdock. Is there something you two would like to share with the classroom?” The teacher gave them a cold gaze for interrupting.

Before Lena could utter a word, their chemistry teacher's voice boomed across the room. She rolled her eyes, her conversation was just getting interesting, and she flipped her short hair over her shoulder as she turned towards him. "Not particularly, Mr. Darren, no," she sighed, bored. "We would've talked at a regular volume if that were the case," she continued, her elbows on her desk and her face resting on her hands "And since you've just noticed our conversation, I figure our volume was well below your hearing range," she earned a few chuckles from the class before continuing "And therefore our conversation, well, none of your business." She finished, a pleased smile on her face. She could see her teacher's blood boiling on his face, furious at her words. She was known to talk back to a few teachers, every once in a while, but in this case she did it strategically. She hoped that Mr. Darren was ticked off just enough to kick both Hunter and Lena out of class, therefore giving her a chance to convince him to skip the rest of the day. So, basically, she was bored, and this was the only thing that occurred to her.

Unlike Lena, Hunter leaned back into his chair as if to appear like he wasn’t doing anything wrong. He didn’t want any trouble, and would have apologized to the teacher if Lena hadn’t opened her mouth. God, she’s something else. He thought to himself as he listened to her talk back to the teacher. This wouldn’t be her first time talking back to the teacher, nor the last, that he was sure of.

“You think this is funny, Miss. Murdock.” The teacher said, more of a statement than a question. She was right, he was pissed enough to kick them out, and more. “Is that so. Then I hope you still have enough to talk about outside of my class. So get out. You too, Hunter. I also hope you guys still have enough to talk about in detention tomorrow,” he said sarcastically.

Lenaaaa. What did you do? Hunter wanted to groan.

It seemed like she had pushed just the right buttons. Except an afternoon detention was not precisely what she was looking for. She didn't spend a second she didn't need to in school. She found the place looked, smelled, and felt like a prison, and every single inmate was desperate to escape. Lena sighed exaggeratedly before standing up and taking her bag. "Oh we do Mr. Darren, really, and believe me," she turned to Hunter just to give him a coy smile and a soft lip bite "it will be much more interesting than whatever you can come up with."

To say the least, Hunter was actually a bit embarrassed. He never understood the crazy feeling people got from getting kicked out or being able to piss the teachers off. To him, he was always taught to respect anyone older than him back in the pack. Never give an attitude, always do as said, follow the rules, and never talk back. He talked back once to his parents, and boy did he regret it. He surely learned his lesson afterward.

But here he was, grabbing his bag and pushing his chair to stand. He wanted to apologize, really, he did, but know he would look stupid if he did. Instead, with his head down, he followed Lena out of the classroom. Once they were in the hall, he finally spoke up. “What were you thinking, Lena? Now he’s going to call my parents and I’m going to get killed for having detention.” He wasn’t really angry at her. He couldn’t be, but he was disappointed.

Lena turned the handle of the door and kept it open so that Hunter could pass through. She waved goodbye to the teacher through the small window on the door, a smug smile on her face, before turning to the boy. "You really wanted to hear him drone on for another half an hour Landon?" She said, fixing her bag on her shoulder and straightening her skirt. "Believe me, we're not missing anything life-changing here." She looked to both sides of the wide corridor, a slight echo carrying their voices. Lena figured they had enough time to sneak in one of the back doors and walk out of the school unnoticed. The only problem was convincing Hunter.

She took out her makeup bag and flicked items around until she found a small mirror and a red lipstick, not a care in the world. "You won't get killed, because you'll tell them that you were defending another student or some other chivalrous act." She popped her lips and turned to him. "I know you can come up with something."

"In the meantime," She said, putting her makeup bag back and crossing her arms, the same playful smile she had given him before on her face. "We're getting outta here."

“I am going to get killed.” He corrects her, and then mumbles to himself, “they don’t care who I stand up for unless their from the pack.” That was actually a fact. His parents didn’t want him to mingle with none werewolves, so to stand up for one would be considered mingling to them. But he couldn’t explain that to her. She wouldn’t understand. Mayne Cora could say I stood up for her? I know mom would say it’s okay, he thought to himself since she was his cousin.

As he was lost in thought of how he would fix this, he didn’t even pay attention to her reapply her lipstick. It wasn’t until she spoke about ditching the school that she got his attention again. He looked at her with narrowed eyes, as if calculating what she had just said, and then chuckled. “Your kidding, right?” He started to make his way down the hall opposite of where the doors were. “I have gym next, and we can’t make up points for that class if I skip.” He points out to her.

Lena furrowed her eyebrows, suddenly getting out of her bubble of "devil-may-care" attitude and noticing how worried Hunter was getting over nothing. She wasn't miss perfect, had gotten detention plenty of times, and nothing was as serious as he made it look. She just didn't think there were any real consequences to their actions. She was sure that in five years, nobody would care that they got detention over talking in chemistry class. Lena felt it was a waste of time to worry. But it appeared that Hunter didn't think that way. For some reason, he was really afraid of his parents, and Lena didn't have a reason to think otherwise. She hadn't socialized with them much, and she didn't think they were particularly fond of her. Lena might've not cared about the current consequences, but Hunter, for some strange reason, did.

"Hunter, Hunter," She said, taking his arm to stop him from walking any further. "You are making a huge deal out of this! Nobody cares about gym, I can fake a doctor's note and you're free." She reached out toward him, her hands on his neck to make sure he kept his eyes on her. She didn't know if she was trying to convince him to leave as a friend or as a succubus (she found the distinction hard to make these days), but she could feel her voice changing just slightly, her fingers tapping on his skin. "Stay."

Damn it. But Cora won’t agree to stand up for me. I need to convince her. Maybe I could do her home work? But she wouldn’t even want me to do it. She’s smart. Ugh. What did I get myself in- Hunters train of thoughts were cut off when he felt a tug on his arm. Even though he could have easily pulled away and kept going, he stopped moving and looked down to see Lena moving in his way, getting his attention.

He was still thinking about how he would cover his ass about the detention, his eyes scanning the hallway as if he could find an answer in the lockers or lights. But then he felt her hands take a hold of his neck to force him to look at her. He didn’t remember the last time he was this close to her. Was it back in middle school? Or elementary? He doesnt even remember if her eyes were ever this hypotonic. Or how her voice was enough to make him forget his worries. Or even how the simple tap of her fingers was enough to make him nod okay. He didn’t know why he gave in so easily, but he just did. “Fine.”

Lena knew Hunter was a smart guy. He did fairly well in school, he was committed to his beliefs, and seldom could he be convinced to do something he didn't want to. For his young age, he was mature and well put-together. But she also knew of her powers. Of the strange ability she had gained in her early teen years, that made boys like Hunter go weak in the knees before falling on them. It was an attractive force that few could resist, and ever fewer wanted to. Lena knew this was as part of herself as her eyes or her smile, not something she could just mask or remove. Not that she wanted to. She relished in the rejuvenating force that invaded her with each new partner (or should she say victim?). She knew, thanks to her mother and grandmother's warnings, that this was her curse, to rely on others' desire for strength, and as the twisted creature that she was she would never, ever, experience love.

But right now, she wasn't thinking about love. She was thinking of ways to have fun.

Lena's lips curled up into a smile when he responded, and she massaged the back of his neck before running her hands down his arms until they met his hands. "Well," She began, leading him toward the exit. "Then let's go."
