Zara (kind_konfetti) Hey all. My name is Zara and this will be my first mountain climb. I have read over 100 books so far in 2018 but I darent try to calculate how many were from my owned books (i expect less than 20%). With over 200 physical unread books, 1000 unread kindle books, and an inability to stop accummulating books, I need this challenge! I hope to discover some great books, but my main aim is to do some serious shelf clearance and concentrate on my current owned books. I shall use this thread to keep me accountable. I look forward to climbing with you all

Zara (kind_konfetti) Thank you for the welcome Jessika, Ann and Bev. Today I went through my shelf and have prepared a pile to start the year off with. The pile are books I have owned for over 2 years and are listed below. Looking at them, I think there are a number there I won't enjoy so the aim is to read and/or unhaul them. I shall update the read books and the unhauled books as the month goes on. Ofcourse I may decide to read something from a different pile but I hope to be disciplined and start with the longest owned!

My Age of Anxiety – Scott Strossel
Frazzled – Ruby Wax
How to be a productivity Ninja – Graham Allcott
Fuck it therapy – John C Parkin
An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth
The Happiness Project – Gretchen Rubin
Reclaim Your Heart – Yasmin Mogahed
UnLearn – Humble the Poet
More Than This – Patrick Ness
My Sister lives on the Mantlepiece – Annabel Pitcher
The Rest of Just Live Here – Patrick Ness
Alone on a Wide Wide Sea – Michael Morpurgo
We All Looked Up – Tommy Wallach
To Rise Again at a Decent Hour – Joshua Ferris

Good luck weeding out the older books!

Rhonda Good luck! I own over 500 unread books, so I feel your pain! :) I'm also hoping to make a big dent in books I've owned for years. You can do this!

Zara (kind_konfetti) Thank you Rhonda!!

I am expecting about 16-20 books for xmas so the pile is getting bigger!

Zara (kind_konfetti) So far I have read one of my own books (the Martian by Andy Weir) which I will be leaving at my work staff room book library. I have resisted buying books even though lots of book money for my birthday! But then I went to the library and maxed out my loans... So maybe Mt Kilomanjaro wont be conquered this year....

message 9: by Jessika (new)

Jessika (jessika_56) Hmm, maybe you should move to my town... Our max for loans is 150!

OMG Jessika, that is INSANE!! I would totally max out my card though! Where is that?! I would probably never buy another book

Haha yeah, and you get 2 30-day renewals, I think. That's in good ol' Wichita, KS!

Zara (kind_konfetti) January check in: I read ONE of my own books and FIFTEEN from the library.

BUT I sorted out my shelves and ended up donating 71 books to the charity shop and giving my sister 3 books she wanted. Does this count?!

Only if you read them first. :-)

Hope you were able to get some more TBR reading done!
