Stacey (thisismenow) | 7 comments I bought this book from a library sale in the early 90s when I was at primary school. The book would have been written around the 80s or very early 90s. It was a children’s novel.

The cover was black with a portrait in the centre which was in an oval frame.

I think the ghost was called Harriet and she wore a white dress in either Victorian or Edwardian style. I can’t remember if the whole book was that period, or if she was just a ghost from then.

The only part I remember is her trying to kill another child by upturning a rowing boat on a pond in the garden of the house she lived in while alive.

Very vague, but I hope it rings a bell for someone!

Stacey (thisismenow) | 7 comments Thanks Rainbowheart, but unfortunately not - although they sound like something 8 year old me would have loved!

I think there was something about a fire too. Maybe Harriet (Henrietta? Something beginning with H!) died in a fire.

Rainbowheart | 28620 comments Stonewords?

The names don't match, but there is a fire.

Rainbowheart | 28620 comments Wait Till Helen Comes?

There is also a fire in that.

Stacey (thisismenow) | 7 comments You wonderful little wombat! It’s Wait till Helen Comes! Not Harriet or Henrietta! but Helen :)

I just looked at Mary Downing Hahn’s page and I think I’m confusing the cover of The Ghost of Crutchfield Hall with this book. I had totally forgotten about Mary Downing Hahn, so thank you!

Rainbowheart | 28620 comments You're welcome! Glad to help out.
