Joseph Ballenger Wonder Word

The wind felt soft. Invisible pillows that blazed past my skin as I sat on the ledge. I liked this feeling. This soothing, calm atmosphere called Saturday.

Takes me back to when this city once cared. When its citizens would lift an eye to the struggling children. The abandoned and unloved who only wanted a place to lay their heads and a touch of warmth they can call home. But none of that mattered now.

Once word about the "Reminiscence Initiative" raced along the streets, each and every family within the sectors flourished. Any person without a family was deemed "defective" and forced within the Restoration Buildings. My current home.

The purpose of these buildings weren't clear. They never were. Many defective children roamed about the city in search of a family just to stay clear of these places.

And as I watch them from above, I remember the promise I made to one defective child: "Family is more that the blood that binds. It's love that holds and never lets go. And I promise you, I will break down this city and build it upon what truly matters. Love that is beyond all understanding."
