Valancourt Books (valancourt_books) Hey folks,

I wanted to let you know about our publishing company if you're not already familiar with us.

Valancourt Books is a small press that focuses on rediscovering neglected works of literature that have unfortunately fallen out of print in the past. We reprint transgressive fiction, horror literature, rare Gothic texts, gay classics, fin de siècle literature and more.

Valancourt began reprinting ultra rare texts from the 1790s and we've moved on from there to the end of the twentieth century. A two-person operation, we print the books we personally love and want to reintroduce to the world.

We've printed over 230 books over the course of the last nine years, and many may be of interest to readers in this group. So here's a brief highlight:

The Day the Call Came by Thomas Hinde Necessary Doubt by Colin Wilson Brother Death by John Lodwick The Rack by A.E. Ellis

The Day the Call Came by Thomas Hinde

Frightening in its implications and darkly humorous in its execution, Thomas Hinde's thriller The Day the Call Came (1964) earned rave reviews on its initial appearance but has been long out of print. This edition features a new introduction by Ramsey Campbell and the original jacket art by Victor Reinganum.

Necessary Doubt by Colin Wilson

First published in 1964, Necessary Doubt is a suspenseful and page-turning thriller that reflects Colin Wilson's lifelong interest in crime and murder and explores intriguing questions of existential philosophy. This edition is the first in more than thirty-five years and features a new introduction by Colin Stanley.

Brother Death by John Lodwick

One of the best selling authors of his day, John Lodwick wrote seventeen novels characterized by their fast pace, sardonic humour and brilliant prose. Though admired by Somerset Maugham and Anthony Burgess and compared with Graham Greene and Evelyn Waugh, Lodwick fell into obscurity after his untimely death in 1959 at age 43. This edition of Brother Death (1948) is the first republication of any of his novels since his death and includes a new introduction by Chris Petit.

The Rack by A.E. Ellis

When The Rack was first published in 1958, the critical acclaim was universal: reviewers compared it with the works of Proust, Mann, and Camus and declared it a masterwork destined to take its place among the great novels of the 20th century. This edition, the first in 25 years, features a new introduction by Andrew Sinclair.
