Jessica Vance I am torn between wanting to shout this book praises and being concerned with the level that I enjoyed this read. John is one of the best characters I have read despite his interests. With his mother and aunt working in a mortuary and his psychopathic fascination with death, we follow a mostly grounded potential serial killer who seeks out a murderer within his own small town. Twists within a novel can make or break it for me and the twist of the killer was magnificent! While I don't like all of the methods John handled it (or the descriptions of embalming the dead) I think that this book is amazing. It allows for a narrative for outsiders that have unusual interest and show that everyone can be a hero. But even hero isn't the right word for what he does. He's definitely the protagonist, but not necessarily someone to look up to. The psychological twists between "hero" and "villain" were beautiful. I want everyone to read it, but I don't think everyone should.
