Started a bit early and I'm up to chapter 10
(view spoiler)[i really like the writing style! Not sure about our main character yet... He doesn't seem very likeable so far. I do like robin, though! I hope she'll get more involved in the investigation soon - that would make for some funny scenes between strike and her. (hide spoiler)]

Part 4 chapter 5
(view spoiler)[drunk strike was a hilarious but at the same time sad sight. It's clear robin is thoroughly invested in the detective agency and her boss's well being! Searching for strike and making sure he was alright, was a very kind thing to do. I'd say not many people would do that in real life... (hide spoiler)]

I'm 3 chapters in, enjoying it so far. Though it does seem very tropey and Strike is your stereotypical detective, I'm assuming this was done on purpose.

Completed Part 1 and 10 chapters.
(view spoiler)[ The story is good. The story till now is going like it is suicide. Don't know what will happen further which is good. I like the character of Robin. She is efficient and a fit person to work with Strike. At first her life is full of happiness due to Mathew's proposal then she is attracted towards Strike. Most probably she would end up with Strike and be his sidekick. I have some suspiciouns on Deeby. Still can't be sure and don't know where the story is going. (hide spoiler)]

I've read it before and really liked it. I especially like Robin's character. I just finished the follow-up and liked it even better.

4 chapters in, I really like Robin too. She just seems very competent, which I like. I don't particularly like Strike though.

5 chapters in.

I really like Robin, who is efficient and organized. Strike reminds me a lot of Dresden from the Dresden Files. This is a good beginning to the book.

I think so too, he definitely reminds me of Harry Dresden. Which is probably why I don't like him, I didn't like Dresden either!

Finished this a while ago and already ordered the second book in the series.
(view spoiler)[i really really loved this book, even though i guessed the ending!
I was surprised we didn't see more about robin and Matthew's relationship. I guess it isn't really relevant to the main story.
The descriptive and detailed writing made the story a lot more vivid in my head.
John is one crazy bastard... Glad to see him brought to justice. I'm also wondering whether strike's leg is going to be ok after all the damage he did to it.

I haven't really read much more than chapter 5 yet. It's not grabbing me yet but I hope it does, I really want to like it,

I liked it. Strike takes some getting used to but eventually I came to enjoy being in his head. Robin is a delight and I hope she gets more prominent roles in future books.

Finished. I won't say I loved the book. In between it felt terribly boring. It may be because this genre was new to me or it was actually boring. Still it was a good read. I can't say anything for strike. He was professionally a great detective but other than that I didn't find him very interesting.
(view spoiler)[WTF. John is a killer from starting. He killed his brother when he was a kid due to jealousy and then killed Lula for money. He really is a psychopath. Mrs. Bristow was really a terrible mother. She couldn't see through her children. After Charlie died they should have kept an eye on John's behaviour to know that he is a pshyco. Robin was a lovable character. She many times saved Strike from trouble. Most recently saving him from being butchered. I don't know how Matthew will feel of Robin's decision. (hide spoiler)]

I have to say I've found it rather boring so far too though I will carry on and push through. I picked it up twice this weekend and put it down just a few pages later.

In comparison, I read over 100 pages of Graceling in one go last night and more this morning before work and that's really grabbing me. Maybe it's because I usually read fantasy over crime and I prefer fantastical elements in my books but there's nothing pulling me in with this book.
