Hi Divers,

Monday's Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson

Our friend, Shanda DM'ed me about this. Monday's Not Coming is on sale but we don't how long will it last so better grab this chance now.

https://www.amazon.com/Mondays-Not-Co...

This book didn't win our January Poll, 'Dumplin'' did, but we might still read it someday if you guys want.

Shandra | 7 comments If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan is currently about 30% off on Kindle. (It's still $6.00 on the US site, but that's lower than the regular price.)

This one is a favorite of mine. It's two girls in love in Iran where being gay/lesbian is viewed as a crime punishable by execution. Nasrin is to be married to a man in an arranged marriage, but her girlfriend and best friend Sahar is willing to do anything to be with her so she begins the process for sex reassignment surgery.

There's a lot of information about the culture in Iran as well as some fascinating viewpoints on the difference between being homosexual versus being transsexual. I was enthralled by how the people could easily accept someone was born the wrong gender -thinking surgery was a necessary procedure to correct the biological mistake to the point the government is willing to pay most of the costs for surgery up front- yet they were horrified and repulsed by someone who was a homosexual comfortable in their own body.

It's not a light read. I would say it's one of the more diverse books I've ever read though so maybe look it up to see what you think!

Now this will be a very good book for discussion... I'll look into this. Thanks for sharing Shandra...

Absolutely! I love sharing book deals; as a queer person, I do read a lot more queerlit than anything else so it's always interesting to me when I come across a book which depicts life for LGBTQIA+ people in a foreign-to-me environment. I like seeing the challenges people face around the world, what we share, how we are treated differently, et cetera.

I can recommend several books which feature an LGBTQIA+ protagonist so if there are any members who are interested in that particular aspect of diversity in their reading, I'd be glad to offer recommendations.

Shandra | 7 comments Pride by Ibi Zoboi by Ibi Zoboi is on sale on Amazon US for $1.99 at present (12/25):

https://www.amazon.com/Pride-Ibi-Zobo...

Note: This book is a retelling of Pride and Prejudice featuring all characters of color. I highly recommend it. I really enjoy the author's work in general, but this is a stellar read due to its modern take on classic situations.

Oh I've been stalking this book for a while now. :) :)

〰️Beth〰️ (x1f4a0bethx1f4a0) Book suggestion The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo by slam poet Elizabeth Acevedo. Story is written in verse, powerful both in written or audio format. Think this would be a great addition to our group library. Not free but worth getting from lending library or purchase just for the powerful verse of Ms. Acevedo. Actually since she is a slam poet some of the “chapter”/verses may be on YouTube
