Start Date:January 1, 2021 at midnight EST
Finish Date:December 31, 2021 at midnight EST

Thanks to the Reading 1001 Group, who granted me permission to use this challenge idea.

For this challenge, you will select 24 works of African Literature collecting dust in your "To-Read" pile or that you would like to someday read. Successful completion of this challenge will require you to read 12 total books over the course of the year.

Steps:
~You will start a topic in this thread before December 31 and list the books from 1-24. You may change this list out as often as you like until December 31st, 11:59 EST. The list will become permanent once the challenge begins.*

~Each month a random number will be selected.

~Read and review the book that corresponds to that number each month to earn points. Book must be read and reviewed within that month.

Early or late entries will not count for points. They will cause you to break your cumulative score and start again at the beginning.

On June 1, each member will have the opportunity to substitute 6 books whose numbers have not been selected. If one of your TBR books is selected as BOTM, you will be allowed to substitute it for a new TBR book. No other substitutions will be allowed after Jan 1, 2021.

Be strategic! Only 12 of the 24 books will be chosen. Don't put books you plan to read in 2021 for other challenges, books of the month, etc., as their numbers may not be selected or not selected when you need them to be.

Scoring:
1 point each for reading 1st and 2nd book
2 points each for 3rd and 4th book
3 points each for 5th and 6th book
4 points each for 7th and 8th book
5 points each for books 9-12

NOTE: Scoring is cumulative so if you miss a month, you'll have to start over with the scoring points.

*Late to the challenge? No problem. If you are starting the challenge after January 1st, you may create your list during any month, starting the challenge on the following month. You will place an "X" next to the months that have already been selected.

Diane, was just wondering if it would be possible to get the random number for each month maybe a week or two in advance because it can be difficult to track down African literature here in the UK.

The first month needs to be last minute to allow for changes in the lists. I will announce the numbers one week advance in ensuing months.

Margaret Crampton (cramptonmargaret) I missed the start date to make my list? Is it too late?

No by all means join anytime :)
I guess you could just put one less book on the list - or if you have the time to read one for January, simply put something you have and want to read anyway as number 20, and you will have caught up :)
