Happy new year!

Greetings, Cindee!
I am going to read Stardust and Sleep, Merel, Sleep from your shelf.
I am debating Shiver as well. This is the umpteenth time this book has presented itself to me, several times just recently, and I keep passing on it... I LOVE this author, but have an aversion to werewolf stories... But maybe I should just read the thing and end the internal struggle once and for all :P

So, I was paired with Mion - nice to meet you! -, and I'm going for The Book Thief. Several people have told me it is amazing and Mion gave it 4 stars. Let's get started, then!

I'm choosing A Thousand Splendid Suns and I can't wait to read it! It has over 973,000 ratings on Goodreads and a 4.35 rating, and you rated it 5* I'm sure I'm in for an incredible experience with this one!
I hope you'll find something you're keen to read on my shelf. Let me know if you have any questions or need any suggestions.

I am going to read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe I have been anting to read it for awhile and you gave it 5 stars so hopefully is is good.
I will also read The Graveyard Book it has been on my shelf for awhile and you gave it 5 stars so hopefully it is good.
I might also read The Cruel Prince because I like Holly Black's books.

I really want to read Coraline from your read shelf. Unfortunately it may have to wait till nearer the end of the month but I will keep you updated.
Let me know if you need any help choosing from my shelf!

I hope you like Coraline, I really did :) For my part, I'm going to try and find An Abundance of Katherines, but just in case I'll keep Jane Eyre as my plan B.

Happy New Year!
I am your partner for this month's copy cat challenge. I went through your shelf and I choose The Grapes of Wrath.

Hi!
Happy New Year!
I have decided to read Getting Things Done. Oddly enough I had just bought this last week with the hopes of it being one of the first books to read in 2019!

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoy The Book Thief. It was really charming. I took my time to go through your shelves, as you have many books that I desire to read this year. In the end, I settled for The Giver which I have been meaning to read for all too long. I started it yesterday and I'm already more than halfway through, so if I manage a trip to the library this week, I'll certainly pick up some extra reading for this challenge.
Happy Reading!

Happy New Year to you, too! I really hope you like The Giver; it was a recommendation my students gave me a while ago. So far, I've really enjoyed The Book Thief. My usual books on that subject tend to be a lot darker - Night is a great example -, and this one has been quite a surprise. There are some other books in your shelf that I really want to read and, if I do manage to have some time left, I'll go for The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls next.
Cheers!
Emma

Hi Anne!
Wish you a great 2019 ahead!
I have taken my time going through your brobdingnagian shelf! There were a lot of books that have been piling on my TBR. However, the one that appealed to me the most was The Power by Naomi Alderman. I am most excited to read this book as it also secured a five star rating from you! 😊
Also, I really hope you like A Thousand Splendid Suns. It was a very heavy and difficult read for me and has left me with a lot of caveats i need to follow in life.
Ankit

brobdingnagian - that is my new favorite word :) And it also describes my TBR pile perfectly too LOL
I will be so interested to hear your perspective of The Power...

I know you read it quite awhile ago, but I've decided I'm going to read Ten Tiny Breaths. I had a hard time choosing as I wanted to read Red Queen and One of Us Is Lying as well, but I couldn't get my hands on either one of those. Luckily, Ten Tiny Breaths is on Kindle Unlimited! I'm hoping to get to the other two eventually though.
Happy New Year!

So, i've just finished The Book Thief. It took me more than a few chapters to warm up to it, but I don't regret my choice: the main characters were endearing and it was easy to empathize with them. Mion gave it 4 stars and I'll go for 3.5 this time. I'm usually ok with characters giving spoilers away throughout the book, but this was not the case. Since I tend to re-read most books, this rating might change quite a bit. I'm still trying to find The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls, so I'll start reading it as soon as possible.
Cheers!

Taylor!! I hope you like it - omg to be totally honest I forgot I even read this book! I have a pretty bad memory - especially, sadly, when it comes to books (or maybe happily bc I can keep rereading great ones forever like new?) Not sure what's wrong w me but maybe I'll read that one again hahaha! Cant wait to hear what you think

Also! I just checked and Nightshade is on it's way to my local library so I should have it soon! yayay!

I have decided to read The Cuckoo's Calling! My mom says it's really good AND you gave it 5 stars so I have high hopes!!"
Hi Therese! Happy new year to you too :D
So sorry for not replying sooner. There was something wrong with my laptop and I couldn't post anything in the group. But it's fixed now!! Yeay!!
I've been browsing through your shelf and found several books that I wanted to read. I finally choose Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie. I love Hercule Poirot's series and wanted to try Miss Marple's series :)
Hope you like The Cuckoos' Calling

Ankit, I have finished A Thousand Splendid Suns, and I'm in awe of what an incredible story it was! It definitely did have some very difficult aspects that were heartbreaking, but it was also a beautiful testament to the enduring capacity for love and hope.
I rated it 5*, and this book has earned a spot in my all-time favorite reads!
🙏💕🌸

Hey, Zoe!
I actually really liked the book! In my opinion, it started really roughly and I found it sort of hard to keep reading. Throughout the beginning of the book, she talked about how she didn't do relationships and she was never interested in men anymore even when they were attractive to her, but somehow, someway, she fell in love at first sight with her stalkery neighbor, and I just didn't really understand that??
Once I was able to get past that, though, and the story actually started, I loved the characters and the development they went through by the end of the book. I think the author did a great job of developing all of the characters and there was a twist that was a pleasant surprise because I didn't see it coming!
I hope you enjoy Nightshade when you're able to pick it up!

I've finished Sleeping Murder and I like it. The theme was interesting, the story was succinct and keep me listening continuously. I finished it in 1 day!! Hahaha I rated it 5 stars
How's The Cuckoo's Calling?

The Giver was a wonderful read and I really enjoyed it. As my next read, I've chosen Jane Austen's Emma. I'm roughly 10% in and so far, I'm finding it enjoyable.
Happy reading!
M.

Wooww that's amazing, Therese! I like how Miss Marple gained info with GOSSIPING but her sharp mind process all talks and managed to form a conclusion.
I can't wait to read the rest of the series
I read The Silkworm and really enjoyed it. The plot is amazing and the ending is shocking. Glad you like The Cuckoo's Calling :)
Your shelf inspired me so I decided to read another one from it. Hamlet is my choice. I've started reading it and really love it :D

Happy New Year!
I am your partner for this month's copy cat challenge. I went through your shelf and I choose The Grapes of Wrath.
I hope you find something ..."
Grapes of Wrath is very depressing, as most of Steinbeck's works are. I had to read a bunch of them in high school, since I grew up in California where most of his books are set. I want to reread them as an adult now to see what I think about them.

I hope you like Coraline, I really did :) For my part, I'm going to try and find An Abundance of Katherines, but just in case I'll keep Jane Eyre as my plan B."
Hi Laura,
I'm aboout half way through Coraline now and I'm sad to say I definitely prefered the film!
How are you getting on?

It's awesome that you like the book! It's one of my forever favorites as well!
Also, I'm about one third into 'the power' and it's quite thought provoking. I'll put an update when im done!
P.s : I'm bit of a slow reader 😅

I haven't seen the film (I saw Kubo and the Two Strings though). Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for my library to have Katherine available. I'll give it until the end of the week and switch to Jane Eyre if they don't :(

I know you read it quite awhile ago, but I've decided I'm going to read Ten Tiny Breaths. I had a hard t..."
I have the book! I will be starting it as soon as I finish my current book - putting on my speed reading glasses now ;) I may finish it slightly in to Feb but I will keep you updated!

I'm finished with An Abundance of Katherines, though I'm sorry to say I didn't like it very much-- it was very inventive and snarky, but I didn't quite click with the main character... if anything I agre with Katherine XIX! Still, it was nice to try something different :)

Hi Laura,
Sorry to hear that, but glad you enjoyed reading it. To be honest it's been so long since I read it that I had to go back and look at my review. I gave it 5 stars back in 2014 so maybe I'll read it again this year to see if my opinions have changed.

And everyone else! Please sign up for feb CCC - last chance! link above :)

Hi Zoe,
I'm not your partner but also interested to see how you find Nightshade, because I rated that book one star!

SUMMARY:
In this challenge, participants are paired up to choose and read a book from their partner's read shelf and compare how they each rated the book. It's a fun way to discover new books, to read from different genre(s), and to make PenPal connections. This challenge repeats monthly, and you sign-up separately for each month you wish to participate.
COMPLETING THE CHALLENGE
- Week 1: Review your paired partner's 'Read shelf' and choose a book(s) to read. Post to this thread to update your partner on the book chosen. (You can ask them for suggestions too!)
- Week 1-4: Begin reading, and post any updates/thoughts as you read.
- Week 3-4: Complete your read, and post to the thread with final thoughts on the book and comparing how you and your partner each rated the book.
Participation = Post to thread (book choice), Read book, Post to thread (finished book thoughts)
NOTE:
- Please only sign-up if you are confident you have time to choose and read a book. If you are no longer able to participate after signing up, message a Mod or update this thread, so we can re-match, and no-one is left without a partner for the month!
