Okay so if you wanted to read this this would go from the hobbit to the trilogy of Lord of the rings.

Dianne (deemitchell) | 349 comments I read farmer Giles of ham which is the prequel to the hobbit. Listened to it read by derek Jacobi. It was brilliant.

Dianne (deemitchell) | 349 comments It is very short but good

Dianne (deemitchell) | 349 comments Starting the silmarillion then intend to reread the hobbit and lie of the rings. Silmarillion is supposed to be set earlier and it may shed light on the others- or so I am assured by my Tolkien obsessed husband.

It's supposed to be a difficult read but I'm pushing myself to catch up with the group this month.

Dianne (deemitchell) | 349 comments Yes. It is. I can't get into if at all so far.

Dianne (deemitchell) | 349 comments Finally finish silmarillion. In parts it is more of a reference book with a few scattered stories. Pleased to have got through it. It give background to the other stories in the last 2 chapters. On to the hobbit next, have read this before and it is my favourite of the set.

Think it comes down to what was written by him or from his notes that his son made into the book that makes the difference in difficulty to read.

Dianne (deemitchell) | 349 comments Yes. I agree

Dianne (deemitchell) | 349 comments I have finish the lord of the rings series too. I have really enjoyed it listening to it on audiobook and following in the text. I had listened to it before but become confused with so many odd names, but this way I totally understood it and enjoyed it. I have now finished all of the books for this year, quite pleased with myself. Bring on the list for 2020.
