Group Read Books - 2019

Unless we started a series as a group read from book one (and several do qualify as such) we generally seek out stand-alone books.

Feb-2019 The Lost Man
Mar-2019 Before She Knew Him"
I just read the Amazon preview (first 10 pages) of The Lost Man and enjoyed it. Though it's not an Aaron Falk book, it's immediately reminiscent of Harper's previous mysteries, which have been really good group reads. Looking forward to the release & group discussion!

Oh! I was planning to skip this one, not having read the previous books. But if it’s not part of a series, I’m in!

I saw that too, Ann, and was going to suggest it. Love Greg Iles!

I'm not sure, Ann. I haven't read his other books, so a stand-alone sounds good. But the book blurb didn't really grab me, and at 600-pages I'm a bit wary... On the other hand, maybe I should read it because I won't be reading the Swanson book (DNF'd his last one).
I'll read the Cemetery Road Kindle sample when it comes out to make a final decision.

I do want to recommend The Hiding Place for a possible group read. This is by the author of The Chalk Man. I’m excited about a few mystery thrillers coming out in the next few months. And this is one.
I do plan on reading The Lost Man. It’s interesting that it’s a stand alone.

Perhaps April for The Hiding Place?

April would be great! So many books to read before then. :)

I am about 60% into IQ so hope to start The Lost Man on Thursday or so.

Great! Just reserved it at the library and I'm first in line when it comes in. Great!

I'll start some threads for the posts! The Amazon"look inside the book" doesn't give the chapters, any tips for breaking it out?
Thanks!

The book has 57 chapters and an epilogue. Chapters aren’t very long so they can probably be split fairly evenly into 4 or 5 parts.

I'm up for it as well. Based on the Kindle sample, I'm a tad worried that it won't quite measure up to the first book. But I like Ted, and it's fun to see Amanda back in the mix.

Several of our spring books are starting or enjoying lively discussions now.

Could be an interesting spin on I Know What You Did Last Summer, Ann.
Pondering Crown Jewel, second book in the Riske series we started last year.

Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee by Casey Cep release date 06-May-2019"
Well, you know I’m in for anything involving Harper Lee!

I'll Never Tell looks interesting and releases 6-1.
The Turn of the Key is the latest by Ruth Ware. And a sort of reimagining of The Turn of the Screw. Release date 8-6.

I'd definitely go for this, based on what I've read about it.

I like the looks of I’ll Never Tell too.

Russ wrote: "Pondering Crown Jewel, second book in the Riske series we started last year."

I've add both plus Crown Jewel. We can play with the order of the schedule to best fit our tbr piles for May through July.

June - book two in the Riske series we started Crown Jewel
July - (or sooner 6/1 release in the US) a thriller that looks very good I'll Never Tell

Our cadence is generally one book a month, overlapping to extend the reading period out approximately 60 days and starting on the US release date for new books.
Our style is to start chapter segment threads to guide spoiler type discussions and for 2019 will reinstate the practice of having a Final Comments spoiler thread for those who prefer to skip straight to their summary of a group read book.
Three books to start the new year are already assigned! Please see the Bookshelf link on the Group Home page to find the list and link to discussions of current or past group read books.
