1. A book with a face on the cover- Children of Men by PD James and TBD
2. A book from a genre you don’t normally read
I read pretty much every genre, but horror, straight sci-fi, western, and self-help are probably my least read so my initial thoughts were A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Trembly, Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie, &/or I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn't) by Brene Brown. I'm also now thinking The Fifth Season since I also own that one or maybe a western since that really probably is my least read. My grandpa loved Zane Grey so may try one of his.
3. A book that makes you LOL
Yes, Please by Amy Poehler and, hopefully, The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett
4. A book set in the place you were born
So far I only have The Coincidence of the Coconut Cake by Amy Reichert.
5. A classic or retelling
MacBeth by Jo Nesbo and Hagseed by Margaret Atwood are two of the many I'm considering.
6. A book you’ve avoided or didn’t finish
Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace & War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (I have a feeling getting both in is overly ambitious). Other options: The Stand by Stephen King and The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler (abandoned because it felt too realistic instead of dystopian and I wanted something lighter)
7. A translated book
Not sure yet, maybe something by Fredrik Backman for one of them
8. An award winner (Pulitzer, National Book Award, Newbery, etc.)
The Moviegoer by Walter Percy (National Book Award) and The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton (Man Booker Prize)
9. A book recommended by a child or teenager
No clue, but maybe Rick Riordan since I know some of my friends' kids have enjoyed the Percy Jackson series. I'm hoping I can get one to recommend Artemis Fowl since it's been sitting on my kindle forever.
10. A biography, autobiography or memoir
As You Wish by Cary Elwes and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers
11. A book featuring a character who is different than you in some way (race, religion, abilities, etc.)
I feel like this is almost any book so I'll probably figure this category out as I go.
12. A book by an author slated to visit Kansas in 2019
On the Come Up by Angie Thomas and probably a Walter Mosley book

No clue, but maybe Rick Riordan since I know some of my friends' kids have enjoyed the Percy Jackson series. I'm hoping I can get one to recommend Artemis Fowl since it's been sitting on my kindle forever.
My daughter (17) says she would definitely recommend Artemis Fowl. It's one of her favorites.
