In the chit chat section, there was a minor convo about Kobe Bryant. After I read that, I was on Facebook and Deadspin had written an article about Kobe Bryant, specifically, why is he so forking popular when he is basically trash.

Oh, Lady Belleza,
I am so in tune with you on this. The plaintiff in a specific case about him raping her may or may not have had sex with multiple persons prior to Kobe raping her, but if she said no to Kobe, No Is NO!
In the my court of public opinion he is guilty and a scum bag.

Fishface | 18806 comments I just got my copy of Absolute Madness: A True Story of a Serial Killer, Race, and a City Divided in the mail today. I looked through the photo section to see if I could find any of the victims, whose faces do not show up for me on Google. There was only one in there: Albert Menefee. The anniversary of the day he escaped the serial killer with his life is...today. New Year's Eve.

Fishface | 18806 comments I just stumbled across this one while reading Sid Vicious: No One is Innocent. It describes a stint Sid Vicious did in jail and mentions that his manager's girlfriend gave him a copy of Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders to read while he was waiting to be released.

I was only incarcerated in middle school at the time, but I started reading the same book almost the same day. It was the title that originally turned me on to True Crime.

Fishface | 18806 comments Rock 'n' roll triple header!!!

I just found a slip of paper tucked into my copy of New Murderer's Who's Who listing the dates of the Bible John murders. I went to add them to my Book of the Dead and discovered that Jemima McDonald, the first one on the list, died the same day as Elvis, whose date of death was mentioned just now in the book I was reading this morning, Sid Vicious: No One is Innocent. And when I proceeded to that page in my Book of the Dead, the first names listed there were Gretchen and Wendy Fritz, whose murders were under discussion in the book I finished reading yesterday: I, a Squealer: The Insider's Account of the "Pied Piper of Tucson" Murders. On the day they were killed, Gretchen and Wendy went to see an Elvis movie. And it is essentially impossible that on the night she met her maker Jemima would not have listened to Elvis at the dance hall where she encountered her killer.

Somehow, Elvis contrived to die on the night that 3 of his fans went to get a dose of Elvis before being murdered.

Fishface | 18806 comments 'Nother one!

As I'm sure most people here know, when a picture falls off the wall it's supposed to mean that someone is going to die soon. Well, while taking the whites downstairs to be washed I saw that my Sid Vicious poster had fallen off the wall. The one that says "DRUGS KILL."

I'm square in the middle of Sid Vicious: No One is Innocent; at this point in the book, Nancy has been dead a couple of weeks and Sid is about to die too. Of drugs.

Holy Moley!!

So you know how we were talking about hearing a word on the tv or radio at the exact time we are reading that word in a book? I had that happen 3 times in the course of a few pages.

message 8: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 18806 comments What was the word? Or is it not printable on a family website?

message 9: by Koren (new)

Koren (koren56) | 1597 comments Fishface wrote: "What was the word? Or is it not printable on a family website?"

It was three DIFFERENT words! That was what was so weird about it. I didnt write them down so I only remember one was 'studio'. I think I should start writing them down. The radio or tv is always on so this happens almost every day.

message 12: by Koren (new)

Koren (koren56) | 1597 comments This is so freaky! I fact checked this before I posted and there really was a TV show in the late 50's called Trackdown. I will post the Snopes website as that has a shortened video and the full length episode. This is a western. On the show there is a snake oil salesman who comes to town named Walter Trump. Trump has the entire town believing that only HE can save them by building a wall around their houses. It's worth watching the short version if only to hear the sheriff say " You're under arrest, Trump".

Ok, I didnt see Trump get arrested on the link I posted above or the short video. I'll try to post it below but I think you will have to have facebook to see it.

I don't sit in silence, but I mostly listen to the radio when I'm driving or washing dishes, so reading at the same time is just not going to happen.

I bought a ticket for my girlfriend for VKL, she told me the other day she couldn't make it. I posted that I had an extra ticket in some of my knitting groups and someone messaged me right away they would like it. Here's the freaky coincidence. My girlfriend's name is Marcia. The person that wants the ticket is named Marcia.

Points for creativity, the first one is closest you picked up the knitting reference.

Koren (koren56) | 1597 comments How do you guys (gals) post the pictures?

message 26: by Fishface (last edited Jan 14, 2019 07:54PM) (new)

Fishface | 18806 comments Find the photo you want on a website or Google and right-click on it. A menu will pop up. You can choose "properties" on that menu which will bring up a little screen that includes the web address of the photo. Copy that and then post it in the text box here at GR, like the one I am typing this post in. Surround it by left pointy bracket img src= the web address, then the right pointy bracket. The only space you should have in there is the space I put between img and src.

Or when you right click on the photo, you may see no "properties" on the menu that pops up, but instead you can choose "open image in new window." The new window will have the photo's web address at the top so you can copy it and post it here by adding the pointy bracket deal.

It doesn't always work for reasons I'm not sure of. I do know that if I click on a Google image and the "properties" or "open image in a new tab" choices give me a web address that's half a page long, the image won't post at GR. I stumbled onto the solution to that problem. Click on the image on the Google search page and it pops up on a smaller screen with more buttons to click on. Go to the nearest one that says "VISIT" which takes you to the web page where Google found that image. From there you can usually right-click the image and proceed as above and get a nice, short web address that will allow you to post it on GR.

I have no idea how to accomplish posting an image using a cellphone. It has never worked for me yet.

You need to type - < img src=" then post the url here " / >

Remove all the spaces except for the one between img and src

Fishface | 18806 comments I was doing my weekly crossword and this one was really tough. The only answer I got immediately was "___-Wee's Playhouse." It's a show I've never watched, but I have greatly enjoyed other works in the Pee-Wee Herman oeuvre. As soon as I got off work I started ruminating on the crossword but while doing so went to Family Video to find something new to watch.

What was playing on the screens around the walls? "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure."

do you need the quotation marks? I'm not having any luck finding a pic that doesn't have a long url.

message 36: by K.A. (last edited Jan 16, 2019 07:24PM) (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) | 1297 comments No, you don't need the quote marks.

< img src = url >

Take out all spaces except the one between img and src.

You can often post long urls as long as they are gifs, pngs, or jpgs. If one of those is not at the end, it won't post. Also, it won't post (usually) if the url is actually a website, not the specific location of the picture. It will post the website instead, if anything.

Imgur is often a good source. The below picture is located at
http://i.imgur.com/m09wbdd.gif

I put that url in the appropriate place and:

Fishface | 18806 comments "Image error" happens seemingly randomly, and always seems to mean that I typed everything in correctly but it was the wrong kind of photo. Surprisingly often, when I take an identical photo off a different web page, it will post just fine.

On the other hand, if the whole thing disappears without me even seeing [image error], I usually go back in and discover I typed in something like < img drc= instead of < img src= and once I correct the typo it's all good.

Koren (koren56) | 1597 comments OK, back to the subject of coincidences. This morning I was on Facebook looking at a pic of a friends daughter lifting a 245 pounds weight just when a guy on the tv said he had lost 245 pounds.

The photo has to be online ... not saved on your computer's hard drive. If you have a photo on your hard drive that you want to share, you'd have to post it online somewhere, and then follow the procedure I outlined to post it on Goodreads. You can upload photos from your hard drive into your Goodreads Profile photos, and use them from there ... but not straight from your hard drive.

message 47: by Fishface (new)

Fishface | 18806 comments When I want to use a photo I snapped myself, I "pin" it at Pinterest and from there I can use the above procedures to post the photos wherever.

Yep, that works, or any of the photo storage sites (Photobucket, etc.).

Fishface | 18806 comments I got 3 new cases in the last week and 2 of them are uncommonly similar. I can't post personal details online so this is not what they really said, but 2 clients who do not know each other both came in telling identical stories that are this specific:

"I'm OK in a lot of ways except I can't stand to stay in class because of the pink unicorns calling me out into the hallway, and home is fine except for the stupid Ankylosaurus tap-dancing all night in the shower. I smoke 3 packs of Chesterfields a day. Unfiltered."

They were astoundingly similar. And here's the other odd thing: My boss, who assigned them to me and who has never met either one of them, dismissed one of them as a total liar, and feels deep sympathy for the way the other one is struggling with serious emotional issues. ???
