Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments My book buying last year was insane. I’m not doing any promoted challenges this year because I want to focus on reading what I already own. My overall Goodreads goal is 100, but I should be able to climb El Toro with ease, if I can just keep the*squirrel* buying under control!!

Darci (girlbetweenthepages) | 58 comments I definitely bought too many books last year! Good luck with your reading goals!

Jessika (jessika_56) Good luck on reading what you own!

I know what you mean. I somehow managed to bring over 300 new-to-me books home last year. I still can't figure that out--we didn't go to my favorite used bookstore as often; I didn't find a single thing to bring home from our Friends of the Library clearance sales in Spring and Fall. I was shocked when I looked at my "bought in 2018" shelf here on Goodreads.

Good luck with your climb!

Thanks, Bev! It’s nice to not be alone in the insanity! LOL

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments First TBR book done and it was a doozy!Saga, Vol. 9

message 9: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #2 finished 1/4/19 I struggled with this in December 2018, only reading the first 46 pages, but I’m so glad I picked it back up and finished it. Balanced and important, written by someone who was there and lived the history first hand. And Then All Hell Broke Loose: Two Decades in the Middle East

message 10: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments Finished #3 today 1/16/19: Started the audiobook in December, but was less than 20% done when January rolled around.
The Return of the Native

message 11: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #4 is an ARC that publishes next month, but I always preorder Khan’s books as soon as the preorder button goes live, so I’ve known about this one for more than 6 months, and I’m pretty sure that means it counts for MountTBR. 😊

A Deadly Divide by Ausma Zehanat Khan releases on 2/12/19 and if you like mysteries, especially ones with a social justice message, do yourself a favor and grab her books.

message 12: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #5 finished 1/31/19

Hell’s Princess by Harold Schechter

message 13: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #6 completed. I’m so glad we are allowed to count rereads now, although I have never read the illustrated edition before and I’ve been dying to get to it. I’ve owned the illustrated edition since it came out, but just started my HP reread this year. Such a wonderful series. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

message 14: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #7 Preordered in July 2018, released Jan 29, 2019. I hope Gregg Hurwitz writes more Orphan X novels because these are so much fun to read!Out of the Dark

message 15: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #8 is one of the Akashic Noir collections I bought at the very end of last year. I loved the others that I read, but this one was disappointing. Istanbul Noir

message 16: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #9 I LOVED S.A. Chakraborty's debut, A City of Brass, so I obviously pre-ordered the sequel, A Kingdom of Copper, as soon as it was available last year. The book published this January and it was absolutely worth the wait. Just gorgeous. I do not want to wait until 2020 for the final book in the trilogy. I miss Daevabad already. The Kingdom of Copper

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #10 Pretty pleased with the Mount TBR progress I've made so far and hoping I can keep up the pace for the rest of the year. :) Just finished the next Agatha Christie on my list via audiobook:
Lord Edgware Dies

message 18: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #11 - finished ARC of A Memory of Empire by Arcady Martine that I received last year. Glad to be catching upon a NetGalley reads, but sorry this one was in that stack. 😣

message 19: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #12 - So glad to finally read the Illustrated Edition of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. This is my favorite of the series and the illustrations are gorgeous. I'm so glad rereads count now. It's been more than 5 years since I last read or listened to this book and this is my first time through the illustrated edition. Such a gorgeous book.

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #13 - reread of I Henry IV. I bought this copy last year and was so excited to find a Norton Critical Edition at the used bookstore that wasn't already annotated.
I Henry IV

I *finally* finished #14. It's only been on my TBR shelves since the end of last year, but I started reading it on January 4th and just finished it March 18th. It's a sneaky book, though. It refused to allow me to completely walk away from it and the more I think about it, the more I realize I like it.
Girls Made of Snow and Glass

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #15 finished this morning - first time in audio, but technically a reread of the next installment of Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series. I read the book for the first time more than a decade ago and I've been slowly rereading the entire series via audiobook.Tomb of the Golden Bird

message 23: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #17 The Neverending Story

I first read this book in 1985, at the age of 10. Now that rereads count for MountTBR, I thought this was a good time to reread and share with my postal book club, so thanks Bev for changing the rules! I’m so glad to have finally reread this.

message 24: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #18 Slowly catching up on my NetGalley backlog - I downloaded this eBook last year and just finished it today. A solid spy thriller.
Firefly

message 25: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #19 Also slowly making my way through my collection of Shakespeare plays. Finished this one over the weekend:

Another NetGalley title bites the dust!

message 29: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments I am really struggling with Mount TBR this year. I can't believe it's almost June and I just finished #24. I think I may have been too hopeful in my attempt to climb El Toro - just too many new books! This is one that was released this year, but that I pre-ordered back in December 2018, so thankfully, it counts for Mount TBR. Thanks for that rule change, Bev!

message 31: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #26 - Another published in 2019 that I got via NetGalley in 2018. I only finished it because I wanted to be able to count it and I personally don't count bails towards my annual reading goals.
The Ruin of Kings

message 32: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #27 - another dud from my 2018 NetGalley queue.

The Moroccan Girl

message 33: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #28 Hot Pursuit

I’m starting to really dread my NetGalley backlog. I mean, it’s great to have plenty of books that count for MountTBR, but how many more really crappy books am I going to have to read to clear my NetGalley queue? This one was awful. I want those hours of my life back.

message 34: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments #29 And just when I really start to despair about my NetGalley queue, I get a perfect for me book. This is my first Valerie Bowman book, but it will not be my last. My TBR has just grown by 10 novels and a couple of novellas, dang it. LOL

Kiss Me at Christmas

message 47: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (dgrachel) | 65 comments I have high hopes for getting through a hunk of MountTBR books this October, as I've been saving books for this Halloween month.
#55 is the third of Aaron Mahnke's World of Lore books. I read the first two last year, but intentionally saved this one for this year so it would count for MountTBR, since it would not have counted last year. I enjoyed this one just as much as the first two.
The World of Lore: Dreadful Places
