My husband works for Lockheed and one of his co-workers used to work at area 51...according to him it was all quite secretive and he wasn't allowed to talk about his job at all to anyone. I wouldn't be surprised if the military had ongoing projects...they seem to always find a way to fund their research.
I read American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer ...a book I quite enjoyed, which also got me thinking of how there are various projects assigned to scientists that we have no idea about.
I'd love to read more about Einstein, he truly was amazing!

That's an interesting link to Area 51 Lisa. I imagine that co-worker has some interesting yarns...

Intriguing ideas.
What was the patent you filed, Tim? Only if you feel comfortable saying, of course.

This is not going to be me spouting off about how I solved the Unified theory, this is known information which can be verified if you are really seriously interested, look and learn.
First, Einstein's Unified Field theory was not a stand-alone separate theory. It was actually only a short appendix to Einstein's Relativity Theory. Relativity theory laid the foundation, and the appendix was basically Einstein saying, "Oh and by the way, this leads to Field Unification"
The theory was considered incomplete not because the math was wrong, but because with Relativity theory Einstein gave direct experimental means with which scientists could prove Relativity to be the reality, like the precession of Mercury's orbit and bending of light as it passes the Sun. The appendix which was the concept of Unification, did not suggest any experimental verification nor experimental evidence and opened up a great many more questions.
Without going into too much technical explanation, I will try to explain the basic idea of the Unified Field Theory, which is mentioned in Charles Berlitz book as well.
Realize the Unified Field Theory, is exactly what it's name implies, a theory combining all Field's into one field. Specifically, Electrical, Magnetic and Gravitational fields.
Understand there is a dimensional relationship between Electric fields and Magnetic fields. When an Electric field changes, a Magnetic field will be created perpendicular or 90 degrees to the Electric field. If a Magnetic Field changes then an Electric Field is created perpendicular or 90 degrees to the magnetic field. Think of it like two fields one on the X axis, one on the Y axis. Like a cross.
However, our Universe is physically 3 dimensional, so we have a Z axis as well. The Z axis is perpendicular to both the X and Y axis. It is not a huge leap to consider there is a force, related to the Electric and Magnetic fields, which exists on the Z axis.
A force which may be related to the Gravitational force. Changes on the X and Y axis, effect the Z axis as well, and vice versa.
So we get a Unification or understanding how the three forces are related and connected. Considering that what we think of as our advanced civilization is almost entirely a result of the connection made between electric and magnetic field, making the further connection to gravity has incredible, unimaginable ramifications.
I highly recommend reading the following article, where Einstein has just freshly released his Relativity theory, and openly discusses it to the public. His explanation is much more in line with what I am describing above, then what the current understanding and explanation of Relativity you will get from most scientist's today. Get it from the Horses mouth as it were.
In this 1929 newspaper article, Einstein himself calls his theory a "unitary field theory" and says it provides "unitary field laws for gravitation and electro-magnetism". Whereas today, relativity is called a gravitational theory. The unification of gravitation with electro-magnetism discussed in the appendix of Relativity was entirely removed. ( oh the days when newspapers actually had something intelligent to say )

That's a pretty intriguing statement in and of itself. Any particular reason why? Since realistically it hasn't been demonstrated anywhere, since its impossible to reproduce anywhere---this remark is curious to me. Why would anyone study an obscure physics phenomenon like this one, without any reason to expect something might come of it?
Also: did you study it in an accredited university library environment? Were you able to study it in connexion to your career? Were you in a position to evaluate the provenance of the references you encountered?
I'm not pressuring you, I'm sure you posted in all sincerity. I myself casually explore numerous strange topics via my armchair. Just saying that this is what springs to my mind based on your post.
p.s. your bookshelf on Goodreads has zero books on it. Will you be populating your shelves at some point so we can follow some of your interests?

So if you are say, an assassin and you penetrate all other security and you are ready to make a kill--if you in this invisible field, (say, ringing the room around a diplomat) and you have a pistol on you, that pistol will slowly become very 'hot'. Burning hot. You will have to take it out of its hiding place just to get it off your body.
But I think this must be a different variation on what you're all discussing above though.

One interesting part of the problem is electromagnetism is dipolar and it screens itself due to its vector nature. Gravity is unipolar (as far as we know) and nothing screens it. To me, this suggests they are sufficiently different that unification is going to be very very difficult.

Unified field theory - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified...

James, this is a brilliant and essential thread. The history of electrogravitics and the persistent rumors surrounding Einstein's Unified Field Theory are a fascinating case study in suppressed science.
The debate often gets framed as a binary choice: either these advanced craft are ours (born from classified projects) or they belong to extraterrestrials. Your post makes a compelling case for the former.
I'd like to propose a third option, which is the central premise of my own research and the sci-fi novel it inspired. What if the Unified Field Theory isn't just about unifying electromagnetism and gravity, but about unifying these forces with a third, even more fundamental element: consciousness?
In this view, the technology isn't just suppressed; it's misunderstood. It's an inherited science from a human precursor civilization that knew how to use focused intention as the primary catalyst to manipulate the quantum field. The "intense electric and magnetic fields" mentioned in your post might not have been the cause, but the effect of a consciousness-driven event.
This reframes the mystery entirely. The technology is "man-made," but by a version of man we no longer remember.
Thank you for starting such a thought-provoking discussion.

According to American linguist and bestselling author Charles Berlitz, there was a rumor at Princeton’s Institute for Advanced Study that Albert Einstein did indeed complete a version of his Unified Field Theory for Gravitation and Electricity – even though officially it remains a never-completed theory.
At first, this theory was published in German and appeared in a few scientific journals. In his papers, Einstein called his purported mathematical proof of the connection between the forces of electromagnetism and gravity as being “highly convincing”.
However, this work was withdrawn as incomplete, although no published reason is given save that Einstein suddenly grew dissatisfied with it.
British mathematician Lord Bertrand Russell considered Einstein’s Unified Field Theory complete, but felt that “Man is not ready for it and shan’t be until after World War III.”
Thus the Unified Field Theory on the connection between gravity and the electromagnetic field has remained unproven until the present time.
Leading Japanese scientist and former high-ranking employee of Japan’s Ministry of Defense, Dr. Takaaki Musha, published an article in the 2004, Issue 53 edition of the Infinite Energy Magazine relating to this very question. The article, which covers a unique formula Musha developed for the link between electromagnetism and gravitation, was titled 'The possibility of strong coupling between electricity and gravitation'.
After publication of the article, Dr. Musha claims he was contacted by Doctor (name redacted) from the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy, in Bulgaria. The Bulgarian scientist, whose name we have withheld due to our inability to reach him for comment before this book’s publication, was already working on a similar formula to Dr. Musha’s.
According to Dr. Musha, the Bulgarian’s “formulation proves it is possible to create an unbalanced acceleration by creating intense electric and magnetic fields in a dielectric or ferromagnetic medium. These predicted coupling effects for electromagnetic and gravitational fields would be static and thus they should be able to produce a net force to propel a spaceship.”
The Bulgarian scientist wrote two papers on his formula in 1994.
“However,” Dr. Musha claims, these “papers were rejected by two well-known science journals.”
The strong implication is that there was a cover-up or else mainstream science was just not prepared to consider such theories on anti-gravity.
T.T. Brown, who discovered this electrogravitic effect first, conducted several experiments during the 1950’s and succeeded to generate thrust without the reliance on a surrounding medium, such as air, by applying high voltages to materials with high dielectric constants. Around this time, US aerospace companies also become involved in such research, but their results are mostly classified.
In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, a rash of observer sightings of unidentified, high-speed, high-flying air vehicles continued, but the US Government repeatedly denied it had developed an aircraft to replace the Mach 3-plus Lockheed SR-71 strategic reconnaissance platform – indicating it (the government) was content to let the public assume the sightings were of the SR-71.
In the 1990’s, a quest for an antigravity propulsion system was conducted by the USAF Science Applications International Corp. on behalf of USAF’s then Astronautics Laboratory at Edwards AFB. (Area 51 is a detachment of Edwards ABF, which is responsible for testing of advanced flying vehicles). British multinational defence and aerospace company BAE Systems also provided internal resources for its own anti-gravity studies.
However, there was no significant progress in this area. At least not officially.
In the late 1990’s, Dr. Musha says he worked with the Honda Corporation Research Institute in Japan and conducted an experiment to confirm the electrogravitic effect. Astonishingly, Dr. Musha claims he and the Honda Corporation obtained a positive result.
Dr. Musha also says, “In Dr. Thomas Valone’s 1993 book Electrogravitics Systems: Reports on a New Propulsion Methodology, Dr. Paul LaViolette claimed that electrogravitic technology was developed under US Air Force black projects since late 1954, and it may now have been put to practical use in the B-2 Advanced Technology Bomber to provide an exotic auxiliary mode of propulsion.”
Dr. Musha continues, “An electrogravitic drive of B-2 could allow it to fly at a sufficiently high speed at high altitude, or even space, and it could fly around the world without refueling in an antigravity mode.”
What all this means is that science, and especially suppressed or classified science, may have long-ago evolved to the point where building anti-gravity spacecraft has been entirely possible.
Possible, that is, without any assistance from ET civilizations.
