It's the 1850's in the US and Irish bloke Thomas McNulty and his friend John Cole sign up for army, because they have just lost their jobs as dancing girls in a saloon. Now it's fighting in the Indian Wars and the Civil War.
Both, Thomas and John have more to share than just some fond memory.
While (or because) an "Indian War" novel is way out of my usual reading comfort zone, that book hit me hard. I fell in love right away. With the rough way in which Thomas tells their story and with the beautific and poetic descriptions of sad battles that happen.
Really happy I found this gem.
I finished Daybreak Zero a near future civilization-collapse novel, 2nd book of a trilogy. Time Storm a 1972 SciFi by Gordon R. Dickson. The Dog Stars a Literary Fiction/SciFi by Peter Heller
I started A Strong and Sudden Thaw by RW Day a Gay Sci/Fi-Fantasy.

I also recently started The Infinite Pieces of Us and might not finish it, unfortunately. There's not much of a plot and I don't love the characters so far.

Ooh, I read that in 1988 in my last year at school, I think. How's it looking, Lucia? ...

Great, i already finished it, i loved it

I just started Alliance Rising my favorite author's most recent novel, CJ Cherryh, a prequel in her Alliance-Union Universe.

I just finished CJ Cherryh's Alliance Rising an exquisite prequel (or first book) in her Union Alliance Universe. The detail and density of the novel reminds me of that in her Foreigner series. It's an exciting political SF which is resolved, but leaves questions open for sequels. I am excited.
I started Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, something simpler, yet still fun and exciting.

I finished 2 books: Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell and the bases of the various The Thing movies. And, Out of the Ashes by RW Day, book 2 of his LGBTQ SciFi series A Strong and Sudden Thaw #2. Excellent!
I started The Akhenaten Adventure (Children of the Lamp #1) by PB Kerr a long YA Fantasy series about tweens who are Djinn.

Bill wrote: "I'm about to start The Man Who Fell In Love With The Moon by Tom Spanbauer, about a biracial, bisexual boy in the Old West."
I loved this novel and now wished I'd reviewed it.
