This will depend on where you live, obviously, but find a book that takes place in your home state.

This list will be helpful:

Lindsay | 1 comments I'm reading The Incredible Journey by Sheila Burnford with my kids as part of our "morning basket" right now and it is set in our province - Ontario.

I'm considering The Milkweed Ladies, Strange as This Weather Has Been, and The Coffin Quilt.

Alicia | 19 comments I have a long list of books that I have not read yet in this category, I am sad to say. Plainsong, Orange Mint and Honey, and Centennial are at the top of my list. My dad recommended Centennial to me a while back, but I think what I've seen of the mini-series put me off (also the length- nevermind that I breeze through Brandon Sanderson's huge novels, lol). Also on my list of possibilities are The Quick and the Dead, Battlefield Earth, The Ringer, The Father, On the Road, The Stand and a possible re-read of The Shining.

Laura L Meinecke | 25 comments I'm listening to The Good Daughter, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out its set in Georgia :)

Brittany (brittburkard) | 66 comments Looking at Golden State and I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer for myself.

Our California is an absolutely stunning book for any California kiddos!

And Rachel's Journal: The Story of a Pioneer Girl follows the Oregon Trail from Illinois to California and looks like an interesting read. It is set up in handwritten journal format so definitely for an older kiddo, not a beginning reader.

Alicia | 19 comments I read Orange Mint and Honey by Carleen Brice. I am glad that I chose this book for this category, I enjoyed it very much. It was fun to read about places that I am familiar with, and I thought it was a great book. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer is one of two books I found for myself for this prompt and this one just happened to pop up at my library first. Incredibly creepy to read about a string of serial murders from the 70s and 80s that happened in your state. Eek! But definitely a very interesting despite it not being my typical choice!

Nikki (mnnikki) | 164 comments We've since moved out of Minnesota, but I had requested this book before we left so I'm going to go with it! I read Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger. It was fun to read a story set in familiar places to me!

Brittany...I think I might request I'll Be Gone in the Dark now too though since we're currently in CA.
