2019 Master of Reading Challenge!

For 2019, I'd like to make a concerted effort to find (and read) paranormal mysteries, especially (though not exclusively) in a historical/alternate history setting. I'm not sure I can attain mastery, but I'll keep track of my progress here. Note: since this sub-genre is a quirky niche, some of the most interesting books I've found aren't strictly YA, but aren't necessarily inappropriate for teen audiences. And I'm throwing in any upper middle grade titles that fit, too. Apologies for the mixed bag.

This challenge is open to all and is really flexible for however you want to do it. The general aim is to become more well-read (or masterful) in a certain aspect of your reading this year. Whether that's a genre, one author's books, a format of books, or books written in a certain time period... anything goes! This isn't competitive and there's not really any way to lose - it's just about tracking your reading throughout the year and trying to motivate yourself with a fun challenge.
So here's how it works. As you read more books, you "level up", starting as a rookie and possibly getting all the way up to superhero:
The levels are compound - so Level 2 for example is not 3 books in ADDITION to the 1 you read for Level 1, but 3 books OVERALL. Here's a sample for you to make it a bit clearer:
Original comment: I'm challenging myself to become an Ace of LGBT+ fiction.
2nd comment: Completed Level 1 -
Current status: ☘ Rookie
3rd comment: Completed Level 2 -
Current status: ☾ Apprentice
...and so on.
Feel free to participate as many times as you like, and make sure to edit your comment (or post a new one) each time you level up! You don't have to shoot for 20 books - whatever level you want to reach is fine.
Think that's everything. GOOD LUCK with you quests! Read on!
