Jeanne Just finished 9 Perfect Strangers, Look Alive 25 & Spark of Light - ALL disappointing!!!!

None of these are near the quality of their previous books........I need suggestions of good reads!

Nita I, too, found Spark of Light disappointing.

Caroline I did not like it, either. Fragmented, strange backwards chronology that confused me, and lots of metaphor which, when employed by Picoult, usually impress me as brilliant, but in this story were overused and, in some instances, made no sense.

The cover of the book was beautiful, though; I'll give it that much.

Julie I was disappointed with Spark of Light too. I have loved all of Picoult's other books, but I also found the backwards chronology confusing and less effective in this book.

Chris Forrester-Foley Another disappointed reader. I have loved each & every one of her books. Including Humpback Whale. This one, I could not wrap my head around. Too controversial? Maybe. The backward time line didn't seem to bother me much. I felt more like it was a non-fiction book about Picoults OWN political & moral beliefs than a fictional story. Still I will most likely read her next release. Maybe not right away but I imagine I will give her another shot.

message 6: by Julie (new) - added it

Julie i couldn't finish it... i was bored even thought it was an important subject.

message 7: by Lindy (new)

Lindy Really did not like the ending. There was SO much detail in the rest of the book that the stark, minimalist ending was very disappointing. I had so much invested in these people I wanted way more of a wrap-up.

Tracey I have to agree, very disappointing. Started reading something else before finishing which I never do

Susan I have enjoyed most of the authors work, bit this one was a challenge. The reverse chronological order was hard to follow with so many characters...Joy Janine Izzy Olive Beth Bex.... I had a hard time remembering the story of each one with the exception of Wren and Hugh
I felt this story could have been stellar if it was written in a different format, and love the authors willingness to explore controversial subject in her work.
The ending left me feeling disappointed...like there was a rush to end the book too quickly. What happened to all the many characters that were part of the story?
Did anyone else feel the book was poorly edited? Sentence structure, grammatical errors and a disjointed storyline added to the challenges in reading this book.
