So, it looks like long chapters....
5 chapters is just over 115 pages

The book is broken down into parts for each character. I read through Hudsons part, which is 67 pages.

Hudson (view spoiler)[I think that Leila was right that he purposely was late for his interview because there is a part of him that does not want to leave his hometown. While Leila has a part in his missing his interview, she did say that they should go back and it was all his decision to stay on the island. It's weird that his part ended with all that up in the air, I wonder if what happens to him will get addressed by the end of the book? (hide spoiler)]

Leila (view spoiler)[I wonder what her reason is for taking the long road trip, it may be just for the fun of it, but I get the feeling that she is running from something. Will be curious to learn more about her. (hide spoiler)]

I agree this format is interesting. I am hoping that we get some updates or the stories merge together somehow.

Bree (view spoiler)[eh can't say that I liked her too much. I don't like what she put her sister through. They both lost their parents and Alexis had the stress of having to take care of her sister on top of it all. Just because Alexis never cried in front of Bree did not mean she was not sad. Bree acted very childish. I am glad that in the end she went back home and apologized to her sister. (hide spoiler)]

Elliot (view spoiler)[his story was so sweet. Loved seeing him run around to try and find Maribel and try again at confessing his feelings. Felt bad for him when he found her at the restaurant. I am glad that it all worked out in the end. I think that his was my favorite part so far (hide spoiler)]

Leila (view spoiler)[she seems to find these kids when they are most in need of help. I like the postcards at the end of every part. (hide spoiler)]

Sonia (view spoiler)[I am glad that she told Sams family about Jeremiah. I wished she would have sooner though, you knew that his family would not be angry or upset that she was moving on. That trip sneaking across the border was pretty risky. (hide spoiler)]

Leila (view spoiler)[her past is so sad. I could not imagine losing my family in a car accident and then to not remember anything about them. That would be so hard. She met some nice people at the campground who threw her a nice party. I was glad that Hudson came to see her in the end. (hide spoiler)]

I rated it 3 stars. It was cute and I liked it, but one character made me drop my rating from a 4 to a 3.

I was not a fan of her. Not only was she kind of callous to what her sister was going through
she was completely selfish and self-centered with Leila. Shoplifting right in front of her? getting her to help "steal" a car even though they had one. It was just...I thought it was awful of her to try to get Leila to do all these things with her (hide spoiler)]

Leila (view spoiler)[ I'm sad she was willing to go along with Bree but I think she was right when she said she knew hospital food and that she had a degenerate disease...but I'm waiting to see how that all pans out (hide spoiler)]

Bree (view spoiler)[yes, I hated that she did all that shoplifting as well. The stealing the car was awful too and not only did she drag Leila into that she also dragged that valet as well. She has no consideration for anyone other than herself. (hide spoiler)]

Yay! I was lucky enough to get to hear this author talk today along with many other great authors.

He was really interesting to listen to about his inspiration for this book

He actually said he didn't take the road trip described in this book (although he wish he had!) so he spent a lot of time on good earth trying to see it all

the only one he did go see one of the things described in Elliot's chapter! Which I am just starting!! :D I can't wait - but hearing him talk just may bump up my rating :D

and I hated the attempted border crossing -which I thought was just too far fetched to attempt so many different ways only to get over so easily with donuts?! Ugh...anyway...
