Zoe (zo-ereader) | 490 comments Duration: Feb 1st - Feb 28th
Sign up period: Until January 31st
Partner pairings announced: February 1 (announced in this thread)

For FULL details of how the copy cat challenge works, please visit the 'About Copy Cat Challenge' post HERE !

SUMMARY:
In this challenge, participants are paired up to choose and read a book from their partner's read shelf and compare how they each rated the book. It's a fun way to discover new books, to read from different genre(s), and to make PenPal connections. This challenge repeats monthly, and you sign-up separately for each month you wish to participate.

COMPLETING THE CHALLENGE
- Week 1: Review your paired partner's 'Read shelf' and choose a book(s) to read. Post to this thread to update your partner on the book chosen. (You can ask them for suggestions too!)
- Week 1-4: Begin reading, and post any updates/thoughts as you read.
- Week 3-4: Complete your read, and post to the thread with final thoughts on the book and comparing how you and your partner each rated the book.

Participation = Post to thread (book choice), Read book, Post to thread (finished book thoughts)

NOTE:
- Please only sign-up if you are confident you have time to choose and read a book. If you are no longer able to participate after signing up, message a Mod or update this thread, so we can re-match, and no-one is left without a partner for the month!
- Remember to re-visit this thread on Jan 1 to see who you have been paired up with for the month (adding a calendar reminder helps!)

Taylor ♛ (taykaytee) Hi, Annie!

After looking through your shelf, I've decided to read A Court of Mist and Fury. I read the first book in the series a few months back, and I didn't know if I was going to continue the series as I wasn't the biggest fan of Feyre, but after reading your review, I've decided to give the series another shot!

Let me know if you want any recommendations from my shelf!

Amber M. McCarter (mommyultd) | 169 comments Hello, Syndi!

I think I am going to read The Mysterious Mr. Quin from your shelf, and possibly Crazy Rich Asians, since it seems I might be the only person on the planet who hasn't read it :P

Anne ✨ Finds Joy (annefindsjoy) | 718 comments Hi Mion,

I always enjoy perusing your bookshelf, I find so many interesting books :)

I'm going to read The Yellow Rain (Spain) - I have it on my bookshelf waiting to be read!

And then I'm also going to do a re-read of Pippi Longstocking (Sweden) - I haven't read it since I was a young child..

This will give me two books for Read the World, and one a classic children's for Back to the Classics :)

I'm super excited!

Cindee | 20 comments Hi Chloe,

I am going to read Revolution because it sounds interesting and you gave it 4 stars so it must be worth reading. I might also read Betrayed and Chosen because I need to read more of that series.

Chloe Reads Books (chloee_matthews) Hi Cindee,

We seem to have very similar reading tastes so this was easy for me! I am going to read Finale because I desperately need to finish this series, and I can see from your review that you thought it was a really good conclusion! I am also going to try to pick up The Sun Is Also a Star as this has been something I've wanted to get to for a while.

Happy reading!

Hi, Amber :)

Last year I thought I'm the only one who hasn't read Crazy Rich Asian haha Hope you enjoy those books :)

From your shelf, I choose Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. I looove Anne of Green Gables but haven't read other books in the series.

Hello Taylor,

Sorry for the delay, I was on holiday. I'm just back now so I will go through your shelves and decide on a book tomorrow! Have you started ACOMAF? And if so how are you finding it?

message 21: by Annie (new)

Annie | 89 comments Hi Taylor,

I've had a look at your shelf and I am wondering if you could help me choose a book, as I haven't read that many vampire books, so do you have a favourite that you would recommend? :D

message 22: by Taylor (last edited Feb 11, 2019 10:27AM) (new)

Taylor ♛ (taykaytee) Hey, Annie!

I've sadly been busy with school work, so I'm only a few chapters in, but hopefully I'll catch a break soon and get to sit down and actually get through some!

If you're looking for something that has vampires in it, that's a bit tricky for me. Most of the books I read that have vampires in them, have a mix of other supernatural creatures, too. Born at Midnight is the first book in The Shadow Falls series which is about a girl who gets shipped away to a summer camp for "troubled teens" but it actually turns out to be for supernatural kids. I really enjoy this series, and there's also spin-off tales about the other main characters, which I find really neat! In one of the spin-off tales, the main character is a vampire, but if you haven't read the main series, you'd be missing a ton.

Then there's Night World, No. 1. This is actually a series of 9 books, but it's published in three volumes, each containing three books. Sadly, the author never finished the series, so there's no conclusion (the last book was published in the 90s), but it's apparently in the process of being written, so there's still hope!

If neither of those sound appealing to you, I have some other books that I'd recommend, but these don't have vampires in them.

My first recommendation would be Runaway. It's a book about a 12 year old girl who was stuck in foster care and constantly being bounced between houses. She decides that she can no longer take it, and she runs away. The book in told in a journal format where she's writing on the run. I first read this book in middle school, but even today when I reread it, I love it!

My second recommendation would be Made for You. This is a book about a girl with a very violent stalker that's trying to do whatever they can to be with the girl they love. It's told from multiple perspectives, and it can be graphic at times, but I really enjoyed it, and it was fun trying to guess who the stalker was throughout the book!

My third recommendation would be The Initiation / The Captive Part I. This is a three book series, and is probably my all time favorite book. It's about witches and magic and love. I have a hard time describing this book, but it's really good, I swear!

If none of these sound good, just let me know and I can recommend you something else! :D

Chloe Reads Books (chloee_matthews) Hi Cindee,

I'm 40% through The Sun Is Also a Star and I don't think it's really for me. I'm not hating it, but I don't think it's a story I'm really going to click with. How is your reading going?

Tiina (cauchemarlena) | 371 comments Dear Anne!

I'm sorry for not having had time to pick a book from your shelves before now. I'm thinking of going with The Housekeeper and the Professor or Warcross. If you have any classics you would like to recommend, let me know! If I don't manage to read them in February, it's always a good idea to have a couple of classics planned ahead.

Happy reading!

Both of those books I enjoyed a lot, of course they are very different from eachother...

The Housekeeper and the Professor is heartwarming, sweet, quiet book, true to japanese literary style. It's a feel good read, and an ode to the maths!

Warcross - I like Marie Lu's writing a lot, I find her YA books very readable without eye-rolling :) This storyline was intriguing, action packed, with good pacing, and the main character was a strong smart girl with attitude, and I was rooting for her all the way.

I have a pretty small list of classics read.. but if you want to buddy read one together, I'm game for that too.

Tiina (cauchemarlena) | 371 comments Dear Anne!

Would you be interested in buddy reading A Wizard of Earthsea? I noticed you have marked it as to-read and I recently bought a copy of an edition with the first three books in it - the first book in the series qualifies as a classic! Another book we could buddy read if you're interested is The End of Eternity. Let me know what you think!

Yes, definitely! I have wanted to read Wizard of Earthsea for a long time, and just never seem to get around to it. And it just makes it into the challenge with a 1968 publishing date :)

I just checked the ebook out of the library ... I'll set up a thread for us in Buddy Reads folder :)...

Annie | 89 comments Hi Taylor,

I have decided to go with the Night world, I have ordered the first book on my kindle as I couldn't find the volume edition. Look forward to reading it when I get some time off!

Hope school will get calmer soon so that you have time to relax!

Happy reading,
Annie

Amber M. McCarter (mommyultd) | 169 comments I'm afraid that The Mysterious Mr. Quin never did quite grab me... It was just a bit too disjointed for me, I had a hard time re-engaging my attention on every single chapter. I did find it intriguing when I was actually focused on it, but a bit too exhausting overall. I have a hard time with short stories, for the same reason - so nothing particularly against this book...

I don't particularly like short stories also, but among all of Christie's short stories collections, I love this the most because of the mysteriousness. It kept me reading through all the stories. The ending, however, is rather peculiar.

Yes, please. Having fun is guaranteed when reading Anne of Green gables. I'm almost half way with Anne of Avonlea and I laugh out loud reading Anne's students' letters :D

I've never read Little House on the Prairie but I would love to read it if I can get a hold of the book

message 37: by Annie (new)

Annie | 89 comments Hi Taylor,
I finished the Night World and found it interesting as pointed out a lot of the popular trends that modern vampire series went for such as being invited in and trying to be 'vegetarian'. However, I found certain parts a bit rushed, especially when Ash is involved I wish there was a bit more reasoning behind his actions. Although I did see that he appears in later instalment so maybe that's why?

Happy Reading,
Annie

I actually looooooove reading series. Almost every book I like is a series or a part of it. Unfortunately, Little House on the Prairie is not commonly sold in bookstores in Indonesia (I have no idea why). But I'll definitely look for it :)

Hope you enjoy Crazy Rich Asians, Amber :D

Syndi Siahaan | 122 comments Hi Amber

I finished Anne of Green Gables & Anne of Avonlea today and I'm torn between happy that I finished this book but also dismayed that I don't have the other books. I can't stop smiling for the last few chapters. But I also often teared up when they talked about dear Matthew. The writing is beautiful and detailed. I really really really love it. I'm glad I picked them from your shelf.

How's Crazy Rich Asians?

And I will always remember our mod Anne from Canada whenever I read Anne of Green Gables & Anne of Avonlea. Thank you very very much, Anne :D

My all time favorite book as a kid :) I use to imagine and play-act myself being Anne, because of course, you know, same name... LOL I adore everything about Anne Shirley, and the setting for these books is a beautiful and charming part of Canada too 😍🍁

So glad you're enjoying these stories, and enough to re-read them too!

I also still have Pippi Longstocking here to be read too!

Hopefully I'll catch up over the next week!

Chloe Reads Books (chloee_matthews) I sadly haven't heard from Cindee since the start of the challenge :'(
But I've finished The Sun Is Also a Star and rated it 3 out of 5 stars. I liked the romance element but I think the philosophical spin on it was not my cup of tea. I have a day left to read 250 odd pages of Finale but I did start it!

Amber M. McCarter (mommyultd) | 169 comments I totally forgot to post about finishing Crazy Rich Asians. I'm... surprised by how I feel about it. It is not my kind of story at all, and when I try to pull out redeeming features regarding plot or characters, I come up empty. And yet, it keeps coming back to my mind! I feel sucked in, even though as far as I can tell, I don't actually like anything about it lol
