Please tell us your history with these books.

As for me, I've read the first three books three times and have finished up to book seven. Life got in the way and I've never been able to return to finish the world off.

I tried to read The Eye of the World about 5 years ago and remembered really struggling with it. It was at a time when I preferred really plot-heavy books and struggled with slower-paced ones.

My tastes have since changed a bit, though, so I'm thinking maybe now that I'm older I'll enjoy this series coming back to it. And it's always more fun to read with others!

I've only read A New Spring, so haven't read anything from the main series. I'm really looking forward to reading them though!

Carol | 2 comments I’ve never read anything by Jordan! He’s so well known and as a fantasy lover I feel I need to change that! It’s a bit intimidating but I’m looking forward to reading with others!

message 5: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (tazzypumpkin) | 20 comments I haven't read any of the series. I first learned about it through an ex-boyfriend many many years ago, but wasn't really into fantasy then. Now I appreciate it more and it has been on my to-read list, though I've been intimidated to start.

It really is intimidating. I’m hoping that we can cheer each other on here.

message 7: by Brock (new)

Brock (brockroberts) | 2 comments Started the series in high school (1998) and got caught up in the emotional turmoil of waiting for further novels to be published. Luckily all the books are out so that's one less hurdle for the group to overcome. The first four books in the series are my definite favorites.

message 8: by Tomas (new)

Tomas Bergström I have thought of doing a re-read of the series for some time now and thought that this would be a golden opportunity.
I also find it fascinating to see first time readers speculations on the series.

This series is very re-readable as you'll find new nuggets each time you go through it, finding refernces in book 1 and 2 that have significance 10 books later.

Don't worry I won't spoil anything. I'll just lurk in the corner over here.

Hi Yinka! I’m happy you decided to join with us!

message 11: by Caleb (new)

Caleb J. Pecue (cpecue) I have never read Robert Jordan before. At the moment, I am 300 pages into the first one, but I just picked it up a few days ago. So, I may be slightly ahead of where this group is going to be considering it's not starting until March.

message 12: by Jenny (new)

Jenny Ha, well I sorta said this in my intro. But to sum it up again, I managed to get thru book 6 (I think?) before life got in the way and I put the series aside. As time passed it got too hard to jump back in with the next book because I didn't remember anything. So instead I continued to purchase the series as it was released and they have just been sitting on my shelves asking to be read. So here we go.

Same for me, Jenny. Life got in the way and too much time passed, so I really need to start over.

message 14: by peg (new)

peg I read the first book several summers ago and it really put a spell on me! Still remember the wonderful imagery and world-building that seemed so real. Glad to finally be getting back to it. I see there is a prequel called New Spring....do you recommend reading it first?

I’ve heard from people who’ve read the series multiple times that it’s not necessary at all. I haven’t read it, so I don’t know for sure.

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahevermotionbooks) I started the series originally around the time book 9 had just come out. I got to book seven and bottomed out - which I think is a really common place to quit.
I've reread the first three books probably 2-3 times just for fun, but never wanted to go further so past that point it will most be all fresh since I don't remember much past 3!

I bottomed our after book seven and really regret doing that. Also like you, this will be my third reading of the first three. I’m really looking forward to reading the whole thing and knowing how this series ends!

message 18: by Jep1068 (new)

Jep1068 This is my first time reading these books although I've had them on my shelves for ages.

message 19: by Navi (new)

Navi (nvsahota) First time for me as well!

message 20: by Pauline (new)

Pauline PDT | 4 comments I first read The Eye of the World when I was in college and have read up to book four. It was my introduction to fantasy fiction. And just a little trivia. I have unhauled the first book three times; it has come back to me for the fourth time. I’m keeping it for good this time. :)

message 21: by Audrey (new)

Audrey (oddori) | 2 comments Whoops. Wrote this in my intro.. I got The Eye of the World from my local library in 1991 swiftly followed by The Great Hunt. I re-read (1-3 times) before every new book came out, depending on how many years between books. Lost count how many times I’ve read them all to be honest.
Love the audiobooks too.

message 22: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 5 comments It’s my first time reading this series 😁 I’ve seen the covers at the bookstore for years, but never read them, so I’m glad there’s a community to be going on this journey with!

Wow! That's unusual. Most people recommend that you only read New Spring after about book 9 or 10 (publication order, but really anytime after about book 8 is fine, imho). You've got some spoilers there.

message 24: by Erik (new)

Erik | 8 comments I think I picked up the series around 1998 (The Crown of Swords was just out in paperback, I think), and was hooked from that time onward.

message 25: by Sunil (new)

Sunil | 22 comments Hi, i read the books a couple of years ago and loved them. I read mostly in ebook but this time i think i'll try audiobook. Very much looking forward to my re-read and everyone's thoughts.

I’m primarily listening to the audio. It’s really good.

Lyndi (mibookobsession) (mibookobsession) I've read the first three then took too long to get to book four and couldn't remember a lot of the details of the story. I remember really liking the series and meant to restart. I just happened to see this group today so I'm a bit behind and hoping to catch up.

Jason (darkfiction) | 145 comments Mod
Welcome, Lyndi! I’m looking forward to talking WoT with you as my history with the series is somewhat similar.

message 29: by Nebojša (new)

Nebojša (nebojsaen) I bought a paperback copy of Eye of the World in high school (2007). It sat on the shelf at my parents house for almost 10 years. I would try reading it, but never got through it. The world, the characters, the Aei Sedai etc. intrigued me all those years. I am glad to say that I began reading the series again in 2016. Just finished book 10, and I am looking forward to getting through the last four books. I have a hunch that they are page turners.

message 30: by Jen (new)

Jen | 1 comments Hi everybody! I'm Jen and this will be my first time reading anything by Robert Jordan. I've always been very intimidated by the length of the books and the series so I'm glad I found this group!

Sandra Velez | 5 comments Now that I have a history with WOT, I am happy to announce that I just finished. All of it. Including New Spring. What a marathon! Well worth it!

Awesome, Sandra! I’m currently on book 11, Knife of Dreams.

message 36: by Nebojša (new)

Nebojša (nebojsaen) I am almost done with A Memory of Light. For all you who struggle with the series, please do not give up. The story gets so much better form book 9 and onward. What a great series...
