Let's discuss!

Not sure I’m still loving this book. It may be a little too psycho-absorbed for me.

Diomedes seems to be the only one acting as a rational person at this point.

I'm STILL struggling with the ethics of all of this. The lines that Theo continues to cross make me think that he's got another motive altogether. That's the only way this investigative therapist will work for me.

Krystal (krystalhobgood) I'm having a hard time believing his transcription of the conversations. With nobody else there to hear the conversations, and the conversations only being transcribed by his hand afterwards, it's easy to see where words and details could be misconstrued. When Diomedes talks with him afterwards and pulls some of Theo's own feelings out, it becomes even more obvious that Theo doesn't think rationally and without bias while he's conversing with Alicia in the first place. I think he projects some of his own thoughts and feelings into the transcribed conversation.

At this point Diomedes seems to be the only reasonable person involved. I wish he had reigned Theo in and supervised him much sooner.

I too think Theo projected his feelings onto Alicia. He stated that he needed to help her adjust to finding a spouse cheating because he had been through that. His resolution to that betrayal would not necessarily be the same as Alicia, for many reasons.

Deborah (debh56) | 63 comments Being a therapist, I enjoyed reading the supervision piece. That’s much like supervision groups I’ve been part of. In some schools of therapy it’s normal to do notes the way Theo did, which is why they need to be done as soon after the session as possible. When I do spiritual direction, I do notes that way. It’s about capturing the most salient parts of the session. The other thing that interested me was that Alicia might have fantasized the man. Maybe. She could have a dissociative order. There are so many ways this could go.

I was hoping to get your take on some of the practices used in the book. The author seems to have done his research.
