Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I've been using a site called similar web which compared all these sites. They showed the number of visitors to each website and much more. It was very useful and I seemed to be able to use it free. I haven't used it for a bit as I had a handle on most of the sites and their value.

Then Google crashed and wiped all my bookmarks including similar web. I was just going to look up the numbers for the sites on Alex's post and it now wants to 'talk to me' to see how it can help me, i.e. pay, I suspect.

https://www.similarweb.com/website/bo...

This link will take you to the Bookbub page and if you use the 'compare' button, it will show you a comparison with Freebooksy. But that's all! It's blocked me out when I tried to put in a site (at the top of the page).

Dratted Google. It crashed for no apparent reason. It was there when I went to lunch, it wasn't there when I came back. I told my daughter who works in a major international company and she said it happened to her but she just told IT and they restored it again. I've been able to get Google up again but I've lost all my bookmarks - and admission to similar web.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments BookBub is 11.5 million, Alex, and Freebooksy has 530,000.

That's the traffic to their websites in a graph.

The other figures relate to their ranking, so the lower the figure the higher the rank.

Sorry to disappoint you :o) BookBub is the absolute tops.

Alicya Perreault | 90 comments Great idea Alex.
I do find there's a big difference in options available depending on whether your book is free or not and also the genre.
Mine is not free and is part self-help/ part memoir so it's a bit more challenging but so far I get most success with Amazon sponsored ads.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Ah... got it, Alex! Sorry.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I've been pleased with Amazon Ads, Initially .com worked well, but lately it's costing too much and doesn't produce many sales. .co.uk is doing fine and paying for its keep at the moment.

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments I have been pretty bad at promotion so far. I used BargainBooksy three times last year, once for each of my Howard County novels. I got great results for The Fibonacci Murders and less great results for True Death and Ice on the Bay, but some sales for each book. Now that the cover redesigns are done for the first two, I plan to run additional promotions for them.

I'm also toying with using IngramSpark's promotional tools. If you release your book through them, you can promote it to their large customer base (bookstores and libraries) through their newsletters. It costs about $100 as I recall, but you do get good reach for that.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 970 comments Dale, thanks for sharing the information about Ingram Spark. Clearly, I won't be using it anytime soon, but others might. Hugs

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 1814 comments My pleasure, Sam and Alex. Once I do use it, I'll let you know what happens. I noticed the other day that I already have 2 sales through Ingram for the new edition of Fibonacci even though I haven't done any promo at all so far. True Death is now available through them, too.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I have reduced the first of my trilogy from $2.99/£1.99 to 0.99 and I am going to leave it at that price for a while to see if it gets kicked to near the top of the charts. I can hope.

This means I cannot put it in the usual KCD, so I am wondering if any of you know of advertising sites, like Bargain Booksy, that will take books that are permanently 0.99.

Anyone who's been there, done that? Got any info? Please :o)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments I've just thought of another - BookBub take adverts for their newsletters and I think they just take whatever price the book is offered at, i.e. it doesn't have to be discounted.

I've used them before and not found them to be profitable so for others reading this post, it might be best not to splash out but try a low budget to start with and see how things go. Your books might take off better than mine.

Theodore Cohen (theodorejeromecohen) | 1449 comments I'm giving Awesomeaudiobook.com a shot this morning in the Thriller category. Previously, I've use them in the Kids category, but have not been impressed. Nor has an attempt in the Young Adult category yielded sales. This is my first attempt using this marketing platform with a mystery/thriller audiobook.

Dalma Szentpály (snowithish13) | 4 comments Another great way to make your book more visible and brand yourself as an author is public speaking.

PublishDrive is doing a FREE webinar on the topic. You can learn about the power of public speaking; how you can influence others, control your branding, and to sell more books.
