Victoria (asussexlady) Hello!

I'm just getting into Stephen King novels, which somehow I got to almost 30 without reading. I read Misery first and am now getting through It (slowly but surely, I'm not a quick reader).

So far I like what I've read, but I wondered if anyone had thoughts on which SK books I should read next? I think I own a few (Pet Semetary, Carrie, The Dark Tower first book...) But is there somewhere I should start? Read his catalogue in chronological order? Read the film adaptations first? Any I should avoid? I've heard good things about the Skeleton Crew collection.. but really I'm a bit lost.

Any thoughts?!

I came to Stephen King late too! Can't advise on order, but you must read 'The Shining'.

'Carrie' was his first novel and it will be the next one I read, when I next feel the need for something creepy ;)

David Lutkins My first Stephen King book was 11/22/63, and I loved it. IMO it is an excellent book, a great story with wonderful writing. I have read a few of his other books since, but haven't enjoyed any of them as much.

Owen (odjk) I started with Different Seasons, which was perfect, because none of the stories are too long, but all individually excellent.

My top recommendations are Dolores Claiborne, The Green Mile, The Dark Tower series (I'm only onto the fourth one and really enjoying them), and 'Salem's Lot - which was the biggest surprise, because I'm not generally a fan of vampire novels.
