The History Book Club discussion

For the new FREE READ - Read and Lead segment - we are opening up a thread. Come be a Free Reader - Read and Lead - only at the HBC.

Please nominate a book for a Free Read - Read and Lead poll. If you nomination gets selected - the member who nominated the book will lead the discussion for the group (very easy -only on one thread).

The Free Read is so easy and it just a random discussion like the other groups do because it takes a lot of time for moderated reads. We are trying this here so that everyone gets a chance to enter a poll and if there book gets chosen a thread is set up and they can do the free read with others who want to join in. This is very random.

You can enjoy and nominate any book of history (US, World, Ancient, Medieval - any time or place or event or person in history), any non fiction book (any topic) or any historical fiction book (any topic).

We will conduct a poll of the nominations and the highest vote count wins the nomination. The member who nominated the book leads the free read - we will set up the thread for you and away you go.

We will set up the thread for the nominated book, the nominator will lead the discussion on a single thread - post the table of contents if he or she would like, he or she can then post and interact with like readers who sign up on the thread.

We will do the rest in letting the membership know that the Free Read is schedule, the location of the thread discussion, etc. In fact, if you want a leisurely read - then folks just read along as they can and post as they can - no pressure.

The other discussions have assigned reading, a schedule and you might feel you are getting behind - here is there is no pressure whatsoever - you just read the book with some friends. Some will finish sooner, some will finish later and that is OK.

There are no spoiler threads - these are just open discussions. These are not buddy reads which have a suggested reading assignment and suggested length to the discussion and are moderated - this is completely open ended, is voted upon and the person who has their book nominated gets to be the leader - simple as that.

And the rest is up to all of you.
