Did your opinion as to who stabbed Chilton shift throughout the story? Who was your initial suspect and why? Any others that emerged? When, if at all, did you suspect Terry Richmond?

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments Throughout the book, I only had two suspects. One was Hugh Zeller. I thought he may have decided to kill Chilton because of the way Chilton treated Paul. But I couldn't figure out why Chilton would be naked when he met with Hugh.

My other suspect was Terry Richmond. Chilton wanted her dead and I figured he may have tried to do the deed himself since he was turned down by the Italian guy.

My primary suspect was Lizzie for some bizarre reason. Terry was also one when I learned she was Garnet’s mother. Then I thought it might be Garnet. I was all over the place with the suspects. Paul, Roderick, Hugh and Norah were the only ones never on my suspect list for Chilton’s murder.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments Garnet was my prime suspect from the moment Sarah figured out she was pregnant. It was obvious that Paul wasn't the father so I realized that Devries had raped her and that she might have stabbed him in self-defense.

I only started suspecting Mrs. Richmond when she spoke about a mother doing anything to protect her child.

Lucretia was a despicable woman, but I never suspected her of killing either Devries or Roderick. I thought she was too self-absorbed to care about anyone other than herself.

This was a good whodunit as the clues were all there amidst the fine red herrings. I could easily be persuaded to point the finger at most of them😏

Yes, this is the first one in a while that actually caught me by surprise with the killers.

One thing that really troubled me was the description of the people on the Brooklyn Bridge encouraging Mrs. Richmond to jump. It was very disturbing and I was surprised at it. I guess I shouldn'tve been because people can be vicious in all time periods.
